I know a lot of people here already know these facts, but I find it interesting how MSNBC operates.

When it comes to coverage of the Trans Pacific Partnership, no one in the corporate media covered the issue more than Ed Schultz on MSNBCs The Ed Show. When it was announced last week that they were pulling the plug on his program, they effectively killed the only national voice that was talking about the disaster of a trade deal on cable news.
But what is the real reason for MSNBC dumping Ed? When you dig down, its dirtier than you would think.

...that the TPP has nothing to do with free trade. It's about subjecting all workers to the lowest common denominator, when it comes to wages, benefits and working conditions. It also eviscerates environmental regulations.
With all if that said, I am mystified as to why Obama would not only go along with this, but also speak highly of it.
And Hillary called it "the gold standard" of trade deals.
All politicians know what the TPP does and how destructive it will be for the environment, wages and worker rights and working conditions.
So, why do they leverage this garbage?
SusanaMontana41

I think the next Ed Show he actually had Bernie on and they were talking directly about what the President said and both agreed he was referring to the Ed show.
Its funny how politics..that is right wing politics and right wing supporters have became so damn hateful. And if one is a progressive and in my Indiana red county/red township has a yard sign up for a progressive candidate it doesnt just get knocked down it gets destroyed.
Its sad to see this because the younger generations now have not seen anything but violent,,angry hateful, dirty politics brought about by the right wingers...Which certainly is cause for them to stay away from public office, even non political positions like school boards etc.

(84,711 posts)crashed and burned or sold out for lack of continuing support. Eight years after a Dem Presidency what do we have Left of the Left in MSM?
Some try to say the Left Message doesn't resonate with the American People. Others say that Obama solved most of our Problems and the Left wasn't needed like it was under Bush II. Still Others say that Left Media was too much of a Threat to the Status Quo and once it got a enough of following and started to promote Activism.. it had to be infiltrated or eliminated.
Whatever the reason...are we better off today than we were a couple of decades ago? Has Social Media taken the place of Traditional Media and can it hold to make a difference with so much diversity of sites possibly diluting a cohesive message as the MSM still finds ways to Manipulate Message and Drive Breaking News?
I guess time will tell.

(11,945 posts)We're over half-way there. TPP will be a giant step for the transnational corporations because it places corporate interests over those of democratically elected governments -- and their people.
We should be shouting about it from the roof tops. It is outrageous.
Instead, the MSM is conducting a blackout of it so that the American people won't know what is being done to them.
It's so hard to believe that no one of consequence -- except a few brave politicians like Bernie and Elizabeth Warren and courageous pundits like Chris Hedges -- is speaking out.

(17,301 posts)Capitalism will always lead to a feudal/lord government, a totalitarian, dictorial type government because capitalism itself runs that way. To get a long lasting democratic government you have to reflect that democracy in your economic system. Because economics will give power to the richest. Do you really want Koch Brothers and Trump to have the power?
The rich control the media. If Bernie wins, you will have a media aligned against him, much like what you have in Venezuela right now.

Comcast & the other corporate powers can all go back to hell, from where they reside. From HW Bush & his Congress fast-tracking Murdock's American citizenship so he could own TV stations, to all the other changes that allows the media (and other corporate entities) to form their monopolies can all go to hell, too.
Anyway, about MSNBC: I won't turn it, or any cable news until Maddow, Hayes & O'Donnell comes on at night.
Rachel's show has changed. Rarely do we get defining or critical issues as she once did. Nowadays it's cutesy GOP bullshit. I enjoy laughing at the GOP, too, but to hear 40 to 60 minutes of it every night gets old real fast. I used the word cutesy because that's how she's talking these days. I keep trying to think of how to describe it. She speaks like everything is funny or unimportant, including non-GOP baloney. She once reported with great credibility, you couldn't help but respect her.
I DVR each of the 3 evening shows so I can fast forward through the silliness. It makes me sad.
I'm about to pull the cable box out. Rachel has been the only reason we've kept cable, but it's to the point I don't much care anymore.

(3,894 posts)Since then I've found other sources (for msnbc):
http://livenewschat.eu/politics
http://progressivemind.ucoz.com
The first one can be iffy, especially during high-interest programs such as Rachel and the debates, but fills the void. Rachel's entire show is available as a podcast, as well. And no commercials!
The second link was recommended to me recently by Nicole Sandler, a progressive talk-show host, who's creating a website devoted to listing progressive media sources. I haven't had a chance to check out her link yet, though.
There are so many alternatives to cable, that I literally don't have time to watch them all. If you want any suggestions, let me know. I realize many DUers despise msnbc, but my old habits die hard.

(28,347 posts)When I clicked on MSNBC's live stream I then turned on the cable channel & found cable was nearly one minute behind the stream.
There was a pop up on the progressive mind link, but it's in another language. Do you know what they were asking? And which language? Also, after clicking on other channels they want the user to join, & then ask for a credit card. Do you know what that is about?
I'm like you. Old habits die hard. When Rachel first came to MSNBC, the whole household came to a grinding halt. I had to hear each and every word spoken. The family thought I was bad with Olbermann, who affectionately I referred to my 8pm boyfriend. (Ha!) But Rachel was rich with interesting issues along with a strong sense of much appreciated history. My son got me a DVR specifically for Rachel. I have never missed a show. It pained me to write negatively last week abut her. She did a wonderful job in the Democratic forum. OK, I'm rattling on, too much coffee, I guess, least that's my excuse.
I appreciate the links, & am interested in other links you may have.
Thanks again.

(3,894 posts)I did notice the pop up but I ignored it (it was in Russian, btw.) I didn't go any further except to verify that the site exists. I had no idea that the programs were behind a paywall. Nicole did mention that she'd had a falling out with the site's owner, and that's probably part of their dispute. She has vowed to never put her show behind a pay wall and I really admire her for that. She knows we're all struggling just as she is.
I've loved Rachel since her Air America days and although she does seem to be muzzled now, I still admire her ability to bring background to a subject that most of us don't have the time to research. I was a huge Olbermann fan, as well, and miss him so much.
Here are some suggestions for progressive programs that I enjoy:
Secular Talk (YouTube) hosted by Kyle Kulinski, a fellow Bernie supporter. His website is http://www.SecularTalkRadio.com where you can find his radio show, etc.
Sane Progressive (YouTube), another Bernie supporter with a spot-on view of today's politics
Free Speech TV (I get it thru a Roku app, but I'm sure it's available online.)
The Young Turks (YouTube)
The Norman Goldman Show (he's on the air on a few of the remaining progressive radio stations, and can be streamed online.)
Ring of Fire (on TYT channel, I believe)
The Stephanie Miller Show (Free Speech TV)
Thom Hartmann (Free Speech TV)
Ed Shultz (on TYT channel, I believe)
The Professional Left podcast (iTunes) I believe they, the wife and husband team of "Blue Gal"and "Driftglass" each have blogs, too.
I'm sure i've left off some really good ones. I'll let you know when Nicole has her liberal media website up. I'm pretty sure the website will be: TheLiberal.media.
