Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumJust got an email from Al Franken
My response below. Here's the letter:
Ok, you already knew that. But not everyone is on Hillarys online team yet -- and everyone should be.
When I was running for Senate back in 2008, Hillary showed up to help us out. Repeatedly. Not just by talking about the race, or sending money (though she did those things as well). She actually came to Minnesota multiple times to get people excited and out to the polls.
Hillary did that because she knows that Team Franken fights for the same things she does -- making lives of hardworking Americans better. I sincerely believe we couldnt have a better friend in the White House.
Now its our turn to show up for Hillary. Repeatedly. Sign on today to join Team Hillary, get updates on her campaign, and find out how you can help out.
How is Hillary on our side? The answer is: in almost any way you can think of. But here are just a few concrete examples:
Shes called for a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United. In fact, her plan to overhaul our campaign finance system goes well beyond even that.
Whether closing the pay gap, advocating for paid family leave, or protecting womens reproductive rights, shes been fighting for women and girls her entire career.
She supports helping students graduate from public colleges or universities graduate without borrowing a cent for tuition, because she believes students shouldn't leave school with insurmountable debt.
Hillary deserves our help.
And with all the outside money thatll be pouring into this presidential race, she needs it more than ever. Dont miss a second of the campaign. Sign up to support Hillary for President.
Thanks for all you do,
Al
I replied and said:
"Thanks but Im supporting Bernie Sanders."
If you are on any candidate email list and they send you something like this, don't hesitate to give them your feedback. They hear it.

I didn't like his reason for supporting Hillary - it sounded selfish. I wish he would look at what good Sanders can do for multitudes of people rather what Hillary did for Al Franken.

(1,573 posts)Al Franken: Thank you, Jane. Well, the "me" decade is almost over, and good riddance, and far as I'm concerned. The 70's were simply 10 years of people thinking of nothing but themselves. No wonder we were unable to get together and solve any of the many serious problems facing our nation. Oh sure, some people did do some positive things in the 70's - like jogging - but always for the wrong reasons, for their own selfish, personal benefit. Well, I believe the 80's are gonna have to be different. I think that people are going to stop thinking about themselves, and start thinking about me, Al Franken. That's right. I believe we're entering what I like to call the Al Franken Decade. Oh, for me, Al Franken, the 80's will be pretty much the same as the 70's. I'll still be thinking of me, Al Franken. But for you, you'll be thinking more about how things affect me, Al Franken. When you see a news report, you'll be thinking, "I wonder what Al Franken thinks about this thing?", "I wonder how this inflation thing is hurting Al Franken?" And you women will be thinking, "What can I wear that will please Al Franken?", or "What can I not wear?" You know, I know a lot of you out there are thinking, "Why Al Franken?" Well, because I thought of it, and I'm on TV, so I've already gotten the jump on you. So, I say let's leave behind the fragmented, selfish 70's, and go into the 80's with a unity and purpose. That's what I think. I'm Al Franken. Jane?
Jane Curtin: Thank you, Al. That's the news. Good night, and have a pleasant tomorrow.

(41,600 posts)her jumping on the Clinton bandwagon made me ill. Boxer, John Lewis, Sherrod Brown and Maxine Waters - broke my heart and TRUST in politicians. I would never have expected any of them to NOT support Bernie.

I'm so over that, I would have probably sent the letter back with red ink and corrections and put a Bernie sticker in it.

(22,000 posts)I believe I mentioned that I intended to go see Bon Jovi in September on a thread in this group. I ended up canceling my tickets and instead give some money to Bernie. Jon Bon Jovi is a Clinton supporter (he was in 2008 as well). Even on principle I would rather not give money to him and the band if they are supporting a candidate I abhor.
