Has anyone been to Iowa to volunteer?

Just wondering for those who have been there what they are seeing?
Does Bernies org have a good setup as far as GOTV to make sure that all caucus sites are covered.
I heard a discussion in TV tonight that Iowa will have something like 1700 sites.

1. I live in Iowa and I'm a volunteer...

Bernie has 24 offices in Iowa. There is so much excitement surrounding the caucuses.

I know the campaign from the outside perspective. They've called me at least three times. It's interesting, because I'm a registered Republican. I've been a Dem my entire life, but I switched my party affiliation to Republican during the last Republican caucus, because my husband and I wanted to caucus for John Hunstman. We didn't want Santorum to win (Our futile attempt to save the crazy Republicans from themselves).

So, I'm still a registered Republican, yet the Sanders campaign called me multiple times. Finally, they invited me to volunteer and I signed on. Have been very impressed with the staff. Very energetic and positive. We just opened up a new office in my little suburb of Des Moines. That is impressive too, as this is a small area.

Yes, there are 1700 precincts in Iowa. It's important to have enthusiastic supporters at the caucus. That enthusiasm is contagious and it could win supporters to your candidate's side. It's also important that those people are from Iowa. A few times, candidates had out-of-state people come and give pitches. It's awkward, inauthentic and it begs the question, "Why couldn't you get an Iowan to speak for you?" Especially when that person can't even caucus.

Bernie will have many people who are enthusiastic who will be giving speeches; on behalf of his candidacy and what a Bernie presidency would mean to our country.

3. Do you have to register as a Democrat to vote for Bernie then? Or just declare who you support?

In Illinois we just have to tell which party we are voting for and we're handed that ballot. We just have to be registered to vote. When I registered at 18, they registered people by party, but they don't do that anymore.

...to caucus for Bernie.

If you are registered to vote in Iowa--you can walk into your precinct the night of the caucus and switch your party affiliation to Democrat. It takes ten minutes.

Many people will be doing this. It happens every year. Independents make up the largest block of voters in Iowa. Independents who want to caucus for Bernie can fill out the card to switch to the Dem party and caucus for him. It's very easy.

...and you are not registered to vote in Iowa--your registration must be received ten days before the day of the day of the caucus vote.

So, ten days before Feb 1, 2016.

Who can participate in the caucuses?

Any person who is eligible to vote in the state of Iowa and will be at least 18 years old on Election Day, November 8, 2016, may participate in the Iowa Caucuses. These Individuals must reside in the precinct in which they wish to participate, and they must be registered as a Democrat—party registration is available on caucus night.
