Jay Inslee: The high school jock who wants to be President
ay Inslee led the 1969 undefeated basketball team at Ingraham High School to a state championship, and never lost the gung-ho, almost goofy feel of the high school jock. Hyperbole becomes him.
Inslee would take to the basketball court 40 years later, as part of a Washington, D.C., pickup basketball game, with U.S. House members squared off against President Obama and aides. The White House team had a ringer in former Duke basketball player Reggie Love, the president's body man.
Obama went home to shower at the White House.
A decade later, Inslee, 68, wants to live there, starting in January of 2021. He is poised to declare as soon as Friday that he is running for President of the United States, sources close to the governor signaled.
He has already used a meeting there to lampoon President Trump for his proposal to arm school faculty and create "pistol packing teachers." To Trump's face, Inslee said: "We need a little less tweeting and a little more listening."
