40% of Indianians have no opinion about him. That's probably because they don't know much about him. That's the biggest hurdle for the non-nationally-known candidates in the race. Which is why Biden is so far ahead in all the polls. He's well known nationally. People tend to vote first for those they know, unless they hate him/her.

I don't know if the unknown can overcome that adequately. Pete's doing remarkably well, overall. But clearly he's got a ways to go.

Maybe the debate will help with the exposure of the unknowns, which is most of them.

Back in the late 1980's, Evan Bayh ran for Secretary of State and then for Governor winning both and a 2nd term. He then ran for U.S. Senate and won two terms. He did not run for a third term.

IMO the reason he won was not because of who he was but because people knew his dad, Birch Bayh. Birch was U.S. Senator for 3 terms from 1963 - 1981. During that time he drafted and passed the 26th amendment allowing 18 year olds to vote and helped pass Title IX.

Back to Evan Bayh. Thirty years later, fewer people knew of Birch Bayh because more of them had died. And Evan really didn't do anything to make a name for himself.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

because of his dad but the reason he won was because he did run as more conservative than his dad did.
