Former Vice President Joe Biden leads Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) by a two-to-one margin in the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire, according to a new poll.
The Monmouth University survey released Thursday found Biden winning 36 percent support,
followed by Sanders at 18 percent.
South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) is at 9 percent support,
followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) at 8 percent
and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) at 6 percent.
Former Rep. Beto ORourke (Texas) and Sens. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) and Cory Booker (N.J.) are each at 2 percent support,
followed by former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, Rep. Tim Ryan (Ohio) and tech entrepreneur Andrew Yang at 1 percent each.
Fifty-eight percent of likely Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire describe themselves as moderates or conservatives, and Biden leads Sanders 45 percent to 10 percent among this group.

(6,231 posts)normalcy. Folks want normalcy. They just want to beat trump. They are afraid of taking a chance with someone new. I would love to see a Biden/Harris ticket. She would be the first woman VP. Then she would be positioned to become President. Sadly, Americans have a long way to go in accepting women as leaders.

As a national leader.
Ella Grosso was Governor of CT from 1975 to 1980.
I recall my Texan mother talking about "Ma" Ferguson, Governor of Texas, from 1925 to 1927 and 1933 to 1935.

(31,261 posts)Surprisingly only Sweden, The Netherlands and Austria are the only advanced western countries outside of Italy and Spain with that distinction. Sweden and Holland are true surprises, but I guess mysogony runs deep and something about a female top leader causes some men and even women to bolt.

(42,862 posts)I agree. The poll data for BS has cratered. It's almost embarrassing how far (and how fast) the numbers have fallen. For the sake of dignity, I agree with your suggestion.
If he's lost NH, he's lost the primary.

(772 posts)and any attempt to smear him will make those people very angry at the ones who start the smears.
We are seeing that here and in real life.
So if Bernie cannot sell his policies and if he cannot drive down the other candidates, going home is the best option.

(31,261 posts)it is abundantly clear that he can't possibly win the nomination. If he hangs in haranguing the Democratic Party as "establishment" that will be a major red flag for the fall.

(25,183 posts)New Hampshire is in the back yards of those two candidates. If they cannot make respectable showings there, they're toast in most other places. Neither of them will do any better here in SC than they do in NH.
We cannot go on and on with a dozen or more candidates all hoping to get the brass ring at the convention. The early primaries serve to weed out those who have no chance of making it. And the primaries will be AFTER the debates, so enough with your hyperbole.
Based on polling, NOTHING is over yet for anyone, except those that fail to clear the numbers set up by the DLC for being allowed to appear on a debate stage.

(772 posts)He just throws his tired same-old talking points of millionaires and billionaires and oligarchs (correction - no millionaires this time) and income inequality and evil corporations and how we need a revolution and stuff. It had little traction the last time and even less now.
Worse, he will try to smear the other candidates without caring for the party.
Debates are not going to help Bernie. Actually the opposite.

(25,183 posts)if she really wants to attract attention in the next few primaries after NH. I don't think she'll break out of single digits in SC, but if she did OK in some of the contests prior to Super Tuesday, she might be able to keep it going. She's known for being persistent, that's for sure.
At some point, there will be a single slot for "anybody who's not a white male", and she might survive to get to that position, but it won't happen if she comes in fourth in NH.

(25,183 posts)But that assumes the Sanders vote in the rest of the nation automatically goes to Warren, based on the perception that the two of them are closest on the political spectrum. Also, it assumes that Sanders is going to throw in the towel, he certainly showed his persistence back in 2016.

I see Warren & Buttigieg as being complementary candidates.
CNN town hall, April 23
COOPER: I want to follow up. Elizabeth Warren today released a plan that would give loan relief to households making less than $250,000 with $50,000 in loan cancellation for families earning less than $100,000.
Is that something you would support? The funding of it, she says, would come from a 2 percent tax above $50 million for 75,000 Americans.
BUTTIGIEG: Yeah, I still want to do some math around it. I find it pretty appealing. I'm not as certain that I'm comfortable with people of that high an income participating until we have completed the transition to a more progressive tax code, because I think if you're north of $200,000, maybe you're at the point where we could ask you to take care of that on yourself. But the theory of it I think makes a lot of sense.
