Dem Senator Calls for Senate Committee Probe Into Giuliani’s Ukraine Plans

Sen. Chris Murphy called on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman to open up a probe into the details of Rudy Giuliani‘s planned trip to the Ukraine and if Trump’s lawyer’s efforts there have resulted in any foreign policy decisions.

In a letter to committee chair Jim Risch, a Republican, Murphy — who is a Democrat — called for the Foreign Relations Committee to send an inquiry to the White House.

“Rudolph Giuliani, the President’s personal lawyer, has apparently held meetings with Ukrainian officials in the United States and plans to travel to Ukraine for further discussions. As far as we know, none of these meetings are being coordinated with the U.S. State Department or other government agencies,” the letter reads.

The letter continued on, according to The Hill: “Reports indicate that promises have been made regarding U.S. policy as a quid pro quo in exchange for information. Has the private foreign policy engagement of Rudolph Giuliani or other private representatives of the President led to any official foreign policy decisions, such as the recalling of the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine?”

The letter was prompted after Giuliani told The New York Times that he was planning to go to Ukraine to encourage prosecutors there to continue two investigations, one into Joe Biden‘s son.
