Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumKlobuchar was totally on her game during the Fox News town hall
Minnesotas senior senator, Amy Klobuchar did an hour-long town-hall-style show on Fox News yesterday. Todays morning Glean led with a reference to it, so Ill just provide a link for those who want to watch it for themselves and make just a couple of comments.
After her snow-challenged announcement event, national coverage of Klobuchars campaign has been somewhat derailed by the mean-boss stuff. Make of that what you will.
In yesterdays forum, she was totally on her game: likable, logical, factual, unflappable, substantive. I encourage you to watch it. If you believe that the Democrats need a relatively moderate liberal to compete for middle-of-the-road voters, Klobuchar would definitely qualify. Whether the partys left- and center-wings can work out that issue, and whether Joe Biden is the chief contender for that role is a matter to be determined by future events.
The fact that it was on Fox is slightly interesting. Foxs Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum played it absolutely straight. Baier likes to argue that Foxs right-wing slant (if slant is a strong enough term) in its opinion shows is separate from its straight news team, and he did much to support his cause yesterday.

(3,259 posts)I have listened to her a couple of times now and am extremely impressed. While she is tagged with the moderate label she seems to be a pretty solid progressive from what Ive heard from her. Im really just learning about her. I think a lot of people are.

the decision not to do debates on FOX is fine - the debates can be on other stations... but these FOX town halls are different and I'm enjoying all f them. imagine Crooked Donald spending 90 minutes with Anderson Cooper on CNN or Joy Reid on MSNBC... the thought says it all...

(26,732 posts)I agree that what Ive seen so far has been positive... but I wonder whether that might not be them worried that Biden will walk away with the nomination without getting adequately bruised in the primaries.
I think the ideal for them (both for ratings and for helping Trump) is a brokered convention.

I'm sure that Friday night is lowest ratings night for the channel anyway.

(4,168 posts)I have to confess that the "mean boss" revelations about Klobuchar do knock her out of my list of preferred candidates. I've always believed that someone who treats their employees poorly has a questionable character. I've recoiled from friends who mistreat waiters and retail works, from company managers who scream at my co-workers, and from Trump for hundreds of reasons, but also because he screams at his underlings.
That being said, if Klobuchar were to win the nomination (not very likely so far), I'll still vote for her. That's damning with faint praise because Trump has set such a low bar that my drunk neighbor next door would still be a better president.
