Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumNot in the mood for disrupters to heckle and disrupt our convention in Milwaukee '20!
Like those losers did all through our convention in Philly 16, including booing the magnificent first lady Michelle Obama. IMO, and our nominee, HRC. Any so-called delegate who shows up to disrupt in Milwaukee should be hauled off the floor and lose all privileges to act as a Democratic representative at proceedings like this in the future. The stakes are too high to turn Milwaukee into an airing of grievances the way BSs delegates did Philly in 16. Remember their absolutely appalling antics at the convention on the floor that helped cost us the race?! I sure do!

(146,288 posts)We hold those conventions to select a nominee. At the end of the convention, we support the nominee who was selected.
Otherwise, why have a convention at all to let delegates vote according to how their state voted in its primary election?
Disruptions and heckling accomplish nothing except to create ill-will. What possible good does that do?

For anyone who needs a primer on how Russians infiltrated events in 2016, read the first half of volume 1 of the Mueller report. It's scary how a Russian operative would stoke the fire of leftist groups online, and then recruit people from them to be its disruptors events.

(145,184 posts)I have had friends who have been to Denver, North Carolina and other national conventions and this was the once in a lifetime reward for very hard work over decades. Philadelphia was not fun
In the real world with real campaign, all national delegates are carefully vetted. One reason for this is that even pledged delegates can change this votes and vote for other candidates. The other reason for vetting is that a candidate's delegates reflects on the candidate and the campaign. I was vetted and I helped to vet other delegates.
There was evidently no or little vetting of national delegates by the sanders campaign and sanders took few if any steps to control his delegates. sanders sent one very weak text the Sunday night before the convention and then did little or nothing to control his delegates. It was nasty I was there when the sanders delegates booed Congressman John Lewis. I was warned about this stunt 30 minutes before it happened by the Clinton campaign whip. According to my whip, sanders was asked to stop this event and declined. That incident will be used against sanders if he runs in 2020.
I was at the Texas delegation breakfast when a group of sanders delegates marched in and demanded that we condemn Clinton and change our votes to sanders.
sanders spoke to the Texas delegation the next morning and his speech was again solely about himself. There was a mini-riot due to his delegates the prior morning and the only thing that sanders talked about was himself. sanders did nothing to deal with the fact that his delegates were out of control and did nothing to try to help Hillary Clinton win the general election.
Finally a group of sanders delegates yelled at my daughter and called her the c-Word because she would not try to get me to change my vote. Again sanders was asked to tell his delegates to behave during the convention and sanders refused
I am encouraged that sanders may be frozen from getting delegates in Iowa and other states such as South Carolina due to the 15% rule

Take the current RealClearPolitics poll average for Iowa. Only two candidates statewide clear the 15 percent threshold. Behind them, a candidate such as South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 11.3 percent might meet the threshold in some districts to qualify for delegates.....
What does this all mean? There may be very few candidate who get any delegates in Iowa. While a candidate such as Buttigieg or former congressman Beto ORourke might claim bragging rights for third place, he might not get delegates. Failure to get delegates wouldnt necessarily doom candidates going into New Hampshire, but if the pattern repeats in New Hampshire, youll see lesser candidates dropping out....
Second, Sanders is languishing in a distant second place. Its not unforeseeable that he could be passed by Buttigieg and/or Warren and denied delegates in one of the first two states. That would be disastrous for his campaign, maybe fatally so

(1,835 posts)We definitely can't allow this to happen again under any circumstances. It's worth noting that what happened in Philly '16 is an unprecedented event in leadership contests across the globe. You would not see this disrespect of the process in any other leadership race amongst the western democracies.
