Cory Bookers dog promise
New Jersey senator Cory Booker does not have a dog, he said in response to a question from an 11-year-old boy on a campaign stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. But he plans to get one to live with him in the White House if he is elected, he added to cheers from the crowd.
Jay Inslees granddogs
Jay Inslee, the Washington state governor who joined the race March 1, no longer has a dog after his last, Hailey, passed away a decade ago, his office told Quartz. But, Inslees spokesman noted, he has grand dogs (owned by his sons) named Pepper and Tilly. Inslee once named an Irish setter spaniel mix the Washingtonian of the day, for standing guard over a trapped fellow canine and alerting humans to the situation.
Harris, Bloomberg, Klobuchar, etc.
Kamala Harris, the California senator, is an enthusiastic tweeter of doggy things, and the supporter of animal protection bills, but has not introduced the public to any dogs of her own. Vermont senator Bernie Sanders did not have a dog during the last presidential race, and doesnt seem to have gotten one since. Neither Amy Klobuchar, the Minnesota Senator, nor Julian Castro, the former Housing Secretary, nor Tulsi Gabbard, the Hawaii Congresswoman, have mentioned owning dogs during the early days of the race. Howard Schultz mentions his familys love of dogs in his bio, but hasnt during his exploratory presidential bid, while Mike Bloomberg doesnt really seem to care for them at all.

(4,465 posts)Simple. Allergies. Cats too. I just cant be around them very long.
Please be aware there are lots of reasons to not have a dog or cat.
Does that mean I am not support worthy?

...it's a joke for folks who love dogs.
Bound to ruffle the fur of cat owners and others.
Not meant to be a serious standard for support.
Just some ribbing while presenting the plethora of dogs among our candidates.

I love dogs too, but at this time don't have one. Why? Because right now in my life I don't have the ability to give them what they deserve.
Some people go without not because they don't like them, but because they love them.

(17,170 posts)Ever since the "dog thing" started happening several years back, I see all these sad, deformed, spiritless dogs around. Their owners grudgingly escort them down the hard sidewalk, yakking on the phone, dragging them along, jerking them away from trees & fire hydrants. Never allowing dogs to live a dog's life. Sometimes I look in the dogs' eyes and see such profound sadness. Or profound unhealthiness; overweight and sore in legs and feet. Tails sagging and spirit lagging, never to rip and run and chase and bark and frolic.
I respect people who are aware that they don't have the time or commitment to properly care for a dog.
