(58,785 posts)most preludes to not just bashing Biden or the vast mainstream coalition but the basic functions of representative democracies themselves.
Just WHERE is this divisive and destructive poison, claiming a determination to work with Republicans to achieve common ground, is not just impossible but immoral originating?
Its sources can only be our enemies foreign and and domestic who are determined to destroy our democracy. Because creating divisions so hostile that democracy cannot function is how its done.

So if one brings up Pakman's bashing of Democrats and giving a platform to extremists, one is therefore "bashing youth and THE left."
You set up that strawman in your OP.... and now no one is defending it.

Unless something's changed recently.
Ben Shapiro's a "youth" as well, and FoxNews pushes many of the same hit jobs on Democrats that they think have a chance.

(102,272 posts)and younger conservative politicos. What? age doesn't matter with conservatives, only liberal progressives?
Of course, understanding is a two-way street. When one gauges the ability to perceive and similarly conclude based solely on age then perhaps the question should be how young Republicans and youngish conservatives can fail to be more "clued in".

(2,809 posts)You posted this in another thread in answer to my post, reflecting on what I hear from many youths at my job.
One Biden supporter lambasted to me: "You need new friends"...
LOL-- so, quit my job, move elsewhere due to the local youths. Ahem...
Plain and simply, in my area, the youths just simply aren't excited with Biden. Most still either wrote in Bernie or just sat out the election, and.... here we are.
I'm going on 60, and fully aware of Joe Biden's environmental stance, damn proud that he was outspoken on this.
The youths, at least those near me, see a lukewarm candidate, more of the same middle of the road fence straddling "please everyone" candidate they simply aren't excited about. Another older adult figure telling them "everything will be okay with a little progression of the status quo".
He doesn't represent them.

Nice conflation of socialism with social democracy (perfect example of the latter being the Nordic countries, which have very robust, and yet also highly regulated, capitalist economies combined with a vibrant welfare state). They also have far greater upward social mobility than the US (the only country with worse upward social mobility in the OECD than the US is the UK.) Far less wealth inequality (and I mean FAR less) than the US as well.
You really should do some basic research before you post pablum.

(2,809 posts)What's your strategy to energize the youth vote?
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
MineralMan
(146,308 posts)OK. They should vote. That's my strategy for them. They should show up and vote in every election and demonstrate that they matter, electorally.
They should vote however they want to vote. Right now, as it happens, Joe Biden is doing well with younger people. If he becomes the nominee, as I think is very, very likely, they can vote for him, or they can vote for Trump, or they can vote for some Green Party loser. It's up to them.
And here's the thing: If they do show up and vote in percentages over 50%, they will get noticed and they'll get catered to in the next election cycle. Right now, they make up a small percentage of the overall vote, so they're not being catered to so much.
They're unreliable voters. Unless things are just right for them, they stay home. Many stay home anyhow.
So, I encourage younger people to vote in numbers that get attention. When and if they do that, they'll have more clout.
Guess what, the younger voters especially don't show up to vote in primary elections, at least not here in Minnesota. So, those who do show up get to choose the general election candidates. You know who turns out in high percentages? Baby Boomers. That's who.
So, my strategy for younger voters is: Show up at the polling place. Make your wishes known by voting. You'll be amazed!

They were the equivalent of your David Pakman in the 2016 cycle. Where are they now?
I see that Pakman is doing well, though. The video you posted is monetized with 2, count 'em 2, ads on YouTube.
For that matter, where have you been since 2016? You have not been posting here until just recently. I'm just curious.

(3,212 posts)Sometimes I wonder if these otherwise intelligent pundits even know how politics works.
It's not the fact that Hillary wasn't far left that sank her. It's not that she was fairly centrist. In fact, she won by almost 3 million votes, more than any white man in history. Trump squeaked by with what, a hundred thousand votes distributed in a handful of swing states And with the treasonous help of the Russians. And the fact that Hillary has been lied about for 30 years.
DP, it's about broad appeal, and the Electoral college. Biden is NOT HRC in any way. He's male and hasn't been lied about like HRC was for decades. Yes, 2016 was about sexism and racism. Biden won't suffer either.
As much as DP would like it to be something else, a helluva lot of Americans are not far left. They may like far left ideas, but they won't admit being socialist or vote for one. I think a far left candidate is automatically doomed. I know that's changing with the new generations but it hasn't yet, and the kids still aren't voting as consistently as older people. I'm not even 40 yet, but I know you have to consider the EC.
And you can't address any of our concerns about climate, sexism, woman's rights, wealth inequality, our standing in the world, or violence, as long as you have Trump in power. That IS job one.
Maybe I should start a Vlog or Podcast of my own. Or my uncle should. He's brilliant. I'm too busy with my significant other, really.

My boys are 27 and 30. They are college educated, politically aware men. They'll vote for Biden if he's the nominee but they see him as part of the problem, not the answer to the problem.
