(29,362 posts)wants to keep us out of the proto world war in Syria, end the war in Yemen as well as Afghanistan. Need to have an exit strategy and go back to peace. Not go to war with Venezuela or Iran. She is right when it comes to Saudi Arabia & wahabbism unlike the current & past Presidents.

(29,362 posts)It is right to question initial claims after WMD but she acknowledged the chemical attacks. Syria is a proxy war with all sorts of different countries with ISIS mixed in. That is just an unwinnable war. This isn't about Putin about the costs of war. The US & all the past & current Presidents have supported Saudi Arabia & sold weapons bombing Yemen -- the Trump administration uses Houthis who are religious minority Saudi Arabia hates but because Iran helps them that justifies "tensions". How they got too close to us or maybe we are too close to IRan.

(8,456 posts)I'm disappointed to see any of our Democratic elected officials bashed to this extent.
To criticize a particular policy is one thing. This isn't constructive criticism.

(106,858 posts)I am discussing her policies which are largely problematic-- at a minimum.
She has a very disturbing record if you review it thoroughly, which is why her Hawaiian constituents won't reelect her.

(8,456 posts)She's near the bottom of my list of preferred candidates, and has been all along.
But she is an elected official, part of our Democratic coalition. To critique individual votes and statements is fine, IMO, but to say she's right twice every million times is extreme and counter productive, IMO.
And I will defend her on domestic issues. She has voted to protect public land and water, she's for universal background checks for gun purchases, she voted against border wall funding, she has a 96% lifetime score from League of Conservation Voters, she's for criminal justice reform. On domestic issues and as part of our Democratic majority, she's a valuable member of Congress.

(106,858 posts)If you don't like it, alert on me. But, I doubt too many other DUers will agree that my (and others) pointing out her abusive attacks on Obama, her defense of Trump and Putin--based on her OWN TWEETS AND published MSM articles, is an unfair "attack" on her. I believe most DUers have read what Skinner intended with creation of this forum and the TOS--that are fully consistent with what I and others have been posting, but feel free to test the system and in so doing, push your own views, if you so desire. I have faith in the good sense and ability to differentiate on the part of my DU colleagues.

(2,343 posts)It needs to be modified in whatever way makes it a treaty (if that's even necessary) and put before the new Democratic Senate for ratification. Then, it would be harder to undo in the future.

(7,142 posts)are the only candidates who are veterans. There may be more now that we have so many but I don't think so.
I remember history and I'm 71 years old, many here must have forgotten that Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Bolton used the argument that Saddam was a brutal dictator and he needed to be ousted. How well did that work out ousting the brutal dictator Saddam Hussein? We only had 1 lone Democrat in the House vote no to authorize military action in Iraq, Barbara Lee. When she voted no she was bashed pretty bad, she was called unpatriotic.
We have the near exact same situation in Syria where the call is being made to oust Assad, another brutal dictator. If we oust Assad what makes anyone think that the situation will turn out differently than Iraq?
Tulsi served our country, even volunteered to go to Iraq when she didn't have to. I don't call her names, I thank her for her service.
She is one of our candidates who is tough as nails, and that is what it is going to take to take on Trump. Trump won't win a fight with Tulsi.

I agree 100%.
On edit - I think Barbara Lee was the only one to vote against the Afghanistan war.

(31,011 posts)Iran will have the upper hand and there will be zero trust that the US will uphold it's end.
Let's be smarter than this, please.

(29,362 posts)It doesn't matter if Iran has the upper hand is the US sanctions them anyway and Saudi Arabia already has the upper hand on us she is smarter about this.
Sanders was called a Russian agent over his vote against Russia/Iran sanctions but he was trying to the save the deal now the position is to forget the deal and go back to sanctions?
On Thursday afternoon, Senator Bernie Sanders voted against legislation to put new sanctions on both Russia and Iran. He voted for a Russia-only sanctions bill, but opposed the final bills inclusion of new sanctions on Iran because, like John Kerry, he feared it would endanger the 2015 nuclear deal.

(31,011 posts)I should have clarified better.
The US and Iran will have to start over from scratch.
Not only that, the Iran deal has other nations involved as well. Plus, she forgot that Iran left the deal as well.
There will have to be a brand new deal, but signers might be hesitant because the US withdrew when the office changed hands.
Who would want to deal with a country that does a turnabout whenever there's an election?

(29,362 posts)I don't know but they could start there. The people of Iran are smart enough to know our country is run by rich people so have no issues with American people hopefully their leaders are smarter. Iran mostly assists in wars (never directly threatening the US those boats that raised alarms wasn't near Florida) while Saudi Arabia exported terrorism for decades and they are our allies. Even neocon logic breaks down "we don't attack allies" after giving a list of bad things about Iran.

(31,011 posts)I hate the theocracy in Iran and how it treats gays and women.
But I don't think they're the big evil like the neocons and other RW types like to push. Iran's always been all talk for the most part.
We can do better than this.

(29,362 posts)at least Iran has divorce & some rights. Agree about the theocracy. A lot of countries haven't experienced a sexual revolution like the US has.
