Joe Biden's promise: a return to normalcy

Joe Biden isn’t promising a political revolution. He’s not promising to drain the swamp, restructure the Senate, remake capitalism, or usher in socialism.

What Biden is promising is a return to normalcy.

The emotional core of Biden’s Philadelphia announcement speech came about 25 minutes in. Shirtsleeves rolled up, the former vice president leaned forward and dropped his voice to a conversational octave.

“The American people want their government to work, and I don’t think that’s too much for them to ask,” he said. “I know some people in DC say it can’t be done. but let me tell them something, and make sure they understand this. The country is sick of the division. They’re sick of the fighting. They’re sick of the childish behavior.”

“There isn’t a single person among you,” Biden continued, gaining speed, jabbing his finger into the podium, “or anywhere in this country, who could get away with that in their jobs. All they want is their president, their senators, their representatives, to do their jobs, just do your jobs!”

The reason Biden does well in polls is that many voters, including a significant number of Republicans, are tired of the general incompetence of this administration. Keep in mind, when you win a Republican from Trump to the Democratic candidate, that’s like gaining two votes.

If by normalcy you mean having a man of dignity, decency, integrity and kindness in the Oval Office, who will execute his oath office as a sacred duty, then I could not agree more.

If you mean turning back the clock to the Obama Administration before Trump was nominated, well that solves nothing. Congress is still gridlocked, the GOP remains in the grip of Fox and the Oligarchs. The playbook remains the same. Squash the Administration's legislative agenda, then sweep 'em away at the Midterms. Meanwhile a recession is on the cards sooner or later and Trumps's GOP is looking for his replacement: Just as extreme, just as authoritarian, only smarter. Every would be fascist will be lining up: Miller's a bit young, but someone of his ilk.

If the problems of Reagan's normalcy are not solved, the next turn towards hell will be harder, faster, and deeper.

Crazytown, what's not to understand about half the nation supporting leaders who put brown-skinned children in cages -- cruelty as a policy GOAL, steal elections so blatantly it's watched around the planet, engage in corruption so profound we didn't believe it possible, break dozens of laws meant to constrain them, and speak of the need to throw political opponents in prison?

We defeated fascism nearly 100 years ago when our nation had become similarly dangerously destabilized, and we will again.

gang of marauders are doing is NOT "normal". The M$M tried to "normalize" him before the "election" and they've been trying that for two freaking years.

We want a President who will lift us out of the abyss that trump has driven us, and the whole world into.

What progress is made? What "normal" are we going back to? 2015? When Republicans were just ramping up to Trump, stonewalling everything, acting in bad faith, stealing supreme court seats? When no significant action on the climate change front happened? We've already lost enough time on that.

Oh yeah...I forgot about the epiphany that just reverses 10+ years of behavior by removing someone who's only been there for 3...

"I just think there is a way, and the thing that will fundamentally change things is with Donald Trump out of the White House. Not a joke. You will see an epiphany occur among many of my Republican friends,"

An appeal to normalcy has no draw for me. What are you going to do, Joe? I'm not interested in the vagaries. Details matter.
