Beto O'Rourke announces immigration plan ending family separation, offering solution for Dreamers

2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke unveiled his immigration policy plan Wednesday morning, arguing that his border roots make him the best candidate to roll back Trump administration policies and spearhead major changes to modernize the US immigration system.

The plan takes a three-pronged approach, O'Rourke's campaign said: rescinding "inhumane" Trump administration policies such as family separations at the border; convincing Congress to pass better immigration laws, including a legislative solution for the so-called Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who were brought to the US as children; and investing $5 billion in Central America to help address the root causes of migration.

"As a fourth-generation El Pasoan, Beto uniquely recognizes the urgency of fixing our broken immigration and naturalization system," the plan states. "Rooted in his experience serving the largest binational community in the Western Hemisphere — one that draws its strength and prosperity from its rich heritage of welcoming immigrants — Beto is proposing a new path forward to ensure we honor our laws, live up to our values, and once again harness the power of a new generation of immigration toward our shared prosperity."

O'Rourke isn't the first Democratic candidate to offered a detailed immigration plan. Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro unveiled his immigration plan last month, including a proposal to repeal a Bush-era immigration law that makes entering the US illegally a criminal violation.

It's a shame that it's being all but ignored by most on this site. I guess not as many people truly care about children locked in cages and the inhumanity and hatred at the border as I thought did.

I understand your disappointment, but I hardly think that this is a fair statement. Nobody here deserves that kind of judgement or scorn.

How is it the fault of voters (or people on this site) when a candidate's ideas aren't being talked about? Who's to blame when a candidate's plans aren't generating buzz and excitement?

How do you know that the ideas are being rejected? What makes you so certain that people here don't care about children locked in cages?

Could it be, instead, that the candidate (or the candidate's campaign staff, or the candidate's supporters, etc) aren't doing a very good job of grabbing the coverage they need in a very competitive race. That seems to be the most logical and rational explanation to what you're seeing.

I hope he improves and does a better job of getting publicity and coverage of his ideas, his message, his plans, his vision, his hopes. But in the end, it's up to him (and his supporters). It's completely unfair... and offensive, and alienating... to blame others for the failings of his campaign.

And everyone watching all of the live streams knows it. Then the articles that are lies are being posted here. It's not disappointment, it's more like utter DISGUST.

So your problem is with the media? or with the readers here? Just a moment ago, we were being accused of not caring about children in cages.

How do you know for a fact that everyone "knows" the same things that you "know" with the same certainty? That's a rather presumptuous statement to make (unless there's some mind reading going on.)

I believe your anger is misdirected. And that you're being unfair.

The media is being dishonest and inaccurate and those inaccurate articles and talking points are being repeated here. It's frustrating to see things repeated here when you know they are not true. Of all places...for it to happen here is sad.
