Related: About this forumDelaney is getting destroyed by Ali Velshi about universal healthcare claims
John Delaney has no idea what he talking about and he has said Ali is wrong, after Velshi explained the Canadian system he grew up in.
Delaney just blew up trying to make his outrageous claim work.
Ruhle keeps trying to stop it save the congressman but the directors just let it go through a planned commercial break too because it's a train wreck.

It reminded me of childhood.. that whenever I would be asked "What would your superpower be if you had one?"
My answer would always be, "To kill with my eyes."

(5,276 posts)His disparaging of government run single payer healthcare is ludicrous.
It reminded me of Nikki Haley saying ask Norwegians how they like their government run healthcare, you wont like their answer. She was then deluged by tweets from them saying they love their system.
He has zero chance of being on the ticket.

(6,065 posts)Re: The argument about hospitals going out of business because Medicare pays half the rate of private ins.
But, if everyone is covered, there would be no unpaid care for uninsured patients. No losses for the hospitals. Every patient would be a paying customer. So, maybe the difference wouldn't be so great. It would depend upon how much care is for the uninsured now. We know hospitals ask for more than they end up settling for even with private ins. Are they counting that difference as losses already ? In my case, a stay for a stent was quoted for over $44 K and my employer supplied ins settled for about $22 K.
Edit: In my case if I was uninsured, would the hospital write off the whole $44 K as a loss ?

(31,261 posts)None are going out of business and one just completed a massive expansion.
The hospitals that ARE going out of business are in rural areas where politicians fundamental hate government and are backwards. Delaney need to get his facts straight.

(2,899 posts)That is just government spending and doesn't count individual expense. A large part of that is because in America medical and pharmaceutical providers "Charge More".
One of the reasons we are charged more is to pay for the administrative cost of private health insurance, which is very high.
One of the reasons private insurance administration cost are high is because they are spending money to screw their customers out of coverage.
This inflates the cost of medical coverage and we pay more.
Medicare's administrative costs are about 2%. That saves about $500 billion a year saving over private insurance costs.
Pretty sure some of that money can be used to support rural hospitals.
