MANCHESTER, N.H.
As Beto ORourke continues to hold off on an announcement about his political plans, people working closely with him have begun making inquiries in New Hampshire about matters that would be central to a mounting a presidential campaign in the leadoff primary state.
Key Democratic sources -- who are not involved in any effort to draft ORourke -- told WMUR that people close to ORourke have reached out to politically knowledgeable Granite Staters seeking advice on specifics concerning what a New Hampshire campaign would entail.
The sources said the inquiries have touched on the names of strategists and political operatives who may be available for advisory and staff posts should ORourke move forward.
These inquiries have been made only in the past several days and are the first sign of any contact by ORourkes team with Granite Staters.

(118,642 posts)candidates who drop out. There is lots of time when you connect like he does. I'm glad he took the time. I'm glad he took it seriously. Shows that he was unassuming when he ran for Senate.

Beto O'Rourke and his wife, Amy, get ready for the start of the premiere screening Saturday of the documentary "Running With Beto" at the Paramount Theatre during South by Southwest. JAY JANNER/AMERICAN-STATESMAN
Beto ORourke deflected questions Saturday about when he will announce whether he is going to run for president after the premiere at South by Southwest of Running with Beto, a documentary about his failed U.S. Senate race that looked like a prequel for what now seems a virtually certain White House run.
Ten days since ORourke, the former three-term Democratic El Paso congressman, said he and his wife, Amy, made a decision about a 2020 presidential campaign, he told reporters after the screening: I want to make sure I do it the right way and tell everybody at the same time, so Ill be doing that. Ive got to be on the timeline that works for my family and for the country, so thats the timeline were on.
But an email sent simultaneously with the screening to supporters from Cynthia Cano, ORourkes deputy campaign manager and traveling companion during the Senate campaign, left little doubt what that decision will be.
Theres been an outpouring of speculation, excitement, and support from people across the country everyone eagerly waiting for the news. Many of us are crossing our fingers and hoping that Beto has decided to run, she wrote. If youre on the edge of your seat about Betos decision around a potential 2020 run for president, youre not alone. But since youre someone who supported Betos run for Senate, I wanted to invite you to be first to hear Betos big announcement.
