Congratulations to our presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden!
Cory Booker helped pull off an N.J. football miracle in 1985. Can he win big again in 2020?
...The year was 1985, and Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan had just made the football playoffs for the first time in its history. The reward was a cruel joke. They would face No. 1 Hoboken, a menacing squad that played on a dirt field flecked with rocks and glass. Old Tappan, those softies from the suburbs, was expected to lose by three touchdowns. At least.
Nobody and I mean nobody gave us a chance to win, said Bert Ammerman, the teams coach.
But Old Tappan had a secret weapon: A 16-year-old wunderkind named Cory Booker.
Booker is known today as a fiery politician in well-pressed suits, the former Newark mayor who darted into a burning house and the senator who took on Republicans with his Spartacus moment during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings. Now hes running for the countrys highest office, considered a long shot in a crowded field, the guy who President Donald Trump already has declared has no chance to win....

(34,185 posts)3. Back in the day I ran against Cory in HS track
He kicked my ass.
Even then I recognized he was special. Most athletes who were amazing were also assholes. Not Cory.
He knew he was good but he was also gracious and friendly. And let his abilities do the talking.
