Beto O'Rourke says he's not aware of his fundraising numbers

AMES, Iowa — Beto O’Rourke declined on Tuesday to say how much he raised in the second quarter of the year, saying he did yet know his fundraising numbers.

“I haven’t seen them yet,” the Texas Democrat said.

The fundraising figure is a measure of viability watched closely by presidential campaigns — including O’Rourke’s. Hours after the close of the fundraising period, the candidate had signed an email to supporters Monday thanking them for contributing.

“I want to thank all of you who made a contribution or volunteered at the close of such an important quarter,” he wrote. “Because of you, we’ve overcome each obstacle — including the critical fundraising goal we set.”

Only two have announced their numbers so far, not including Hickenlooper who has nothing to count.

He played it extremely well in the first quarter. Playing it down just to come out with a huge haul.

Very little about that is silly in a primary. He did his well presenting his first 24 hour haul as well.

He probably knows that he surpassed the goal but doesn't know the exact figure. He didn't spend the last day sitting around or on the phone seeking donations. He was working. He has staff to deal with all that stuff. All I know is I donated 10 times what I previously had combined in the last week of the quarter...often inspired by negative posts I saw on here.

Which then became a solid “ten times the amount.” You also said you NEVER donate to political candidates, but you do for Beto.

I would not have replied to you and you would not feel compelled to make yet another post to me that is clearly intended to try to get a negative reaction from me. I'm quite sure doing both of those things are against the TOS here.

Then again, I really don't take offense at such trivial things. Specially when it is a positive for a Democrat. I've also been to this rodeo before.

I know that most of his supporters donate in response to negative media stories or internet trolls. Also, there is so much anger from Texans over the stunt Castro pulled at the debates (he was not honest and they know it) and I know many donated more than ever before to him as a result.

The fact that he continues to make major, well known hires indicate that he most likely did well. I mean, that over 9 million he got in the first quarter was in only 18 days.
