Biden's Early Polling Lead Probably Doesn't Matter
March 11, 2019 at 7:44 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
Jonathan Bernstein: With polls showing Biden and Sanders on top not just nationwide, but in the early-voting states as well Ive seen a few pundits wondering whether the contest is less open than it once seemed. I think thats a mistake. Yes, its better to have good poll numbers than bad. But weve already seen one candidate, Beto ORourke, have a polling surge. Were almost certain to see others. If history tells us anything, its that almost any candidate can have at least a temporary surge, usually accompanied by a round of media attention. Many of those surges eventually collapse, but sometimes think Barack Obama in 2008, or Sanders in 2016 they persist.

(17,235 posts)3. When Joe Biden formally announces his run for the Presidency
his poll numbers will surge and he will remain and maintain his strong lead on top.

...I said, what if Biden and Beto announce together. As in, they announce a Biden/O'Rourke ticket. That might be pretty close to game over.
