Dems pick Milwaukee for 2020 convention over Miami, Houston

By BILL BARROW, SCOTT BAUER and IVAN MORENO 27 minutes ago

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Democrats picked Milwaukee on Monday to host their 2020 national convention, setting up the party’s standard-bearer to accept the presidential nomination in the heart of the old industrial belt that delivered Donald Trump to the White House.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez chose Milwaukee over Houston and Miami after deliberations lingered longer than party leaders or officials from the three finalist cities had expected.

“This choice is a statement of our values,” Perez said in a statement. “The Democratic Party is the party of working people, and Milwaukee is a city of working people.”

The convention is scheduled for July 13-16, 2020.

The vile Trump blanketed all of Florida's 67 counties, at least the medium and small city parts, he made appearances near all large cities here, but not in them proper except for Orlando once or twice. The election margin came down to an average of 2,000 votes per county. A visit from a campaign excites party voters, no visit leaves party voters standed and feeling ignored. I saw the enthusiasm building for Trump in my county and I was praying that Hillary got a big name here or in Gainesville, which is close by, it did not happen.

We spent more money there than Obama did in 2012, and we had a larger ground operation.

Second, here is the answer to your question. It seems that they put in a decent amount of thought about a state that we are now told they completely ignored.

http://www.p2016.org/clinton/clintonwivisits16.html

4 visits from Tim Kaine, 4 from Chelsea Clinton, 1 from Bill Clinton, 1 from Joe Biden.

In fact, I remember a Wisconsin party official mocking the fact that all they could get was an occasional visit from Chelsea Clinton.

It was indeed sheer stupidity when you consider that Wisconsin is basically even with the nation in ideological terms. The country reported 35% conservatives and 26% liberals in 2016. The Wisconsin breakdown was 34% conservatives and 25% liberals. So how in the hell can you take that state for granted? The numbers scream that it is a pure swing state. But because we stupidly relied on polling instead of the much more instructive ideology numbers, we basically threw away the state.

Michigan was exactly the same thing. That state reported 36% conservatives to 27% liberals. Again, the same 9% gap as the nation itself. But we brainstormed that it was a cinch.

Instead of campaigning in the true toss up states, Hillary was screwing around in states with 20% more conservatives than liberals.

Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Nevada, Minnesota, and New Hampshire were all toss up states, and Hillary contested them vigorously.

She also did make several visits to Michigan, more than she made to swing states like Colorado or Virginia. She did not think it was a cinch, and in fact she sent Obama out there in the final days.

More visits to Wisconsin would not have turned the state for Hillary. Comey not interfering in the election would have.
