"I know if I'm not on the stage, there's a certain voice that will not be present on that stage."

Jamil Smith @JamilSmith
“I know if I’m not on the stage, there’s a certain voice that will not be present on that stage.” @KamalaHarris spoke up about her surge in the presidential race—and @emarvelous talked with her and with voters about why it matters that she is in it at all.

“Sometimes it takes a while to get people to see that this is possible,” Harris said over the weekend in an interview with The Associated Press in which she discussed race and her standing as the most viable black woman to seek a major party’s presidential nomination.

...As her place in the race has strengthened, Harris has found herself the target of smears about her citizenship and ethnicity, including by one of President Donald Trump’s sons, that echo the same lies and accusations Trump and others raised about Obama, the country’s first black president.

To Harris, it’s the cost of trying to break through long-standing barriers.

“When you break things, you get hurt, you bleed, you get cut,” Harris said. “When I made the decision to run, I fully appreciated that it will not be easy. But I know if I’m not on the stage, there’s a certain voice that will not be present on that stage. Knowing that there is a perspective, there is a life experience, there is a vision that must be heard and seen and present on that stage, and that I have an ability to do that.”

As someone who is still accused of stealing jobs from Americans even though I was born here and a US citizen, I can empathize with several aspects of Kamala's life. Not many candidates can speak for our growing number of Americans who look like immigrants or have immigrant parents.

Back in the day, Nixon chose Spiro Agnew for VP partly because he was the child of immigrants.

It would be sweet to have her husband be "first gentleman" instead of always having a first lady.

About Biden, I will vote for him in the general election, but I won't Vote for him in the primary. I to want to WIN, and Harris CAN beat trump, as can several others. It's not just one person who can get the job done.

she needs to win rust belt states but is from California...east coast elite and her positions taken in this primary make it very unlikely she will win the rust belt. The other reason is her past as AG and DA will be used against her...and since Trump has passed legislation on this matter and pardoned a person too...he can use it against her. Some of the thing she did as DA and AG give me pause and I am a Democrat. I won't repeat the stuff here...no need to bring up ammo for the pugs...but it is out there.

up enough to know that he has to fight for votes and not assume that it's a given. Then again, maybe he should stop giving grist to the mill, now with the latest "gaffe" of lifting portions of his climate change plan from progressive groups that harkens back to one of his derailed campaigns when he had to apologize for plagiarizing twice. Good grief.
