(18,837 posts)All I know is that if you want to believe the "White House Leakers," he's frightens Trump. I want to see him run because I want to see him run, but if Trump finds him to be the most intimidating candidate among all the possibilities, I'd relish that. I think he would lay him to waste in the debates.
And once again, as I say every time I post about this, I will support whichever candidate is chosen. My preference is Biden, but if it doesn't happen, I'll be fully behind whoever is the final candidate.

(12,344 posts)I think it's more likely Trump prefers Biden to others. Trump likes to attack weak points and make big issues out of nothing. Biden's long record gives many points of attack.

(42,770 posts)Things that either trump did himself or toward the right. Strikes me thats harder to do than defending against a total opposite that would rile your base, like someone who espouses a free social program. But I am open to understand.

(12,344 posts)He just shamelessly attacks to put his opponent on the defensive. It's an old Republican tactic on steroids. I don't want to bring up any negatives on Biden, but think about swift-boating Kerry. The war hero became a traitor while the chicken hawk became a hero. Same thing happened with Hillary. She got blamed for Bill's womanizing by the womanizer-in-chief.
Of course, the same will happen to any Democrat, but the longer you've been around, the more targets he has.

(504 posts)That requires a level of competency that is beyond them. Everything leaks.
If Trump really prefers Biden, then the President should listen very carefully to what Joe said yesterday, "Be careful what you wish for."
In the old days, it's true, a long voting record would offer up an opponent many attack opportunities, but this is a different climate. Our nominee is going to get attacked anyway - on personal things, on childish things, not on just the traditional voting record.
The attacks will come no matter who the nominee is. Can we counter-punch, that will be the key.
I think Biden is an excellent counter-puncher. He won't be bullied by Trump.

(42,770 posts)And would absolutely be the hardest for him to beat. Whats trump gonna say hes too decent? Hes too experienced. Hes too prone to gaffes when the world knows he himself is a gaffe machine every second of every day? Hes too moderate? When the country as a whole wants someone who gets along with the other side?
The issue as I see it is that everything Biden is that makes him such an attractive trump opponent is what half of our party isnt digging. Can he survive the primaries without being diminished too much to keep half our base home? And with the latest polls showing Bernie and Joe neck and neck, will either winning create a schism that will keep us from ridding the country from this evil stable genius monster?

(47,430 posts)is his tendency to project his own faults and shortcomings to his adversaries and that won' work with Joe. "Crooked", "lying", "low energy", etc. I don't think Trump's street skills are any match for Joe's and Joe has a better vocabulary.
Hopefully, we will survive this primary intact, especially knowing what we do now about Russian trolling.

(42,770 posts)Started. Maybe there has a be a little shred of truth..being defined as an inkling of what people think MIGHT or COULD be true. The only thing I have seen out there on Joe from the trash talk smear machine is that he's too touchy feely. Hideously hypocritical from the grab their p**** prez.

(47,430 posts)has gone digging into ancient history to drag up Biden quotes from the 1970s, like there isn't a single detail in Joe's life that hasn't been scrutinized 1000 times. Now the latest attacks are he is too friendly with republicans! That probably originated with a republican operative or a Russian troll - they truly are shameless in their attacks.

(42,770 posts)Wouldn't be an argument that would do trump, or another if he's in jail, any good.
So obvious seeing the forces at work to affect our pick. Trouble is, we are totally informed and KNOW about the hacks. And DUers can smell a newbie disrupter a mile away.

(47,430 posts)DUers have come a long, long way. I remember having my buttons pushed many times in the past. I was rather naive about trolls at the time and often took the bait. After fifteen years, I've learned most of the routines and not all of them are newbies. There are some seemingly old-timers who only show up only during election season, hmmmm.

(47,430 posts)Joe Biden would be Trump's biggest nightmare. Joe is a formidable candidate and all of Putin's help won't help Trump.

(47,430 posts)over the years has been communication. Bill Clinton was a master and really connected with people. Joe Biden has that talent as well. Also the man has reduced me to tears more times than I can count. He radiates empathy, really rare in a politician.

(42,770 posts)for me.
That feeling - when someone could make bleeding heart liberals eyes tear up !
I immediately think of Mario Cuomo and Ted Kennedy. I think Obama was more rah - rah enthusiasm and then later utter and complete intelligence and competence. But not words that I have been yearning for as a Democrat born with it in my DNA
I have often wondered why no one tries to evoke that. It seems like it's been so many years. Like when's the last time you heard someone really make you know and feel we need to help the hungry and homeless with their words? Maybe why so many so selfish today??
I am excited more than ever now. Thanks !

(47,430 posts)I adore Obama, but he does not speak to my heart the way Joe does. Joe is as authentic and down-to-earth as they come and though he may not be perfect, he is a truly honest, decent man. I know people who have met him in person and they fall head over heels in love with him. He looks people in the eyes and listens when they speak, as if they were the most important person in the world.
I suppose a lot of politicians say they care about the voters, but when Joe says he cares, you are inclined to believe it. He speaks from his own personal experience and willingly shares it with others if he thinks it will help ease their pain.
I really had mixed feelings about Joe running again, but now it appears he really is and I'm starting to get excited all over again.

(47,430 posts)aside from Aaron Sorkin, was Joe Biden's speech to the IAFF back in 2015. I showed it to several people at time, who became lifelong Biden supporters and admirers. He really knows how to relate to the middle class.
This is apparently an encore performance.

(10,828 posts)reminded people why they've always liked and trusted him. The Big Guns will come after Biden and O'Rourke because they're perceived as genuine threats. Biden brings the skilled hand and heart; O'Rourke (and Harris as well) bring the spark, the excitement about the future.
The other candidate I have my eye on is Inslee. Heard him last night; he's really good. I'm not sure he'll make it to the top tier of presidential hopefuls but whoever wins, I hope they tap the man for a spot within the Democratic Administration. His stance on Climate Change and our need to get serious is more persuasive and solid than anyone else I've heard speak on the subject. He's a man who could get the job rolling.
