Former Vice President Joe Biden will run for president in 2020, a senior Democratic lawmaker told The Hill on Tuesday, a move that will shake up the crowded Democratic primary field and make him the clear front-runner for his partys nomination against President Trump.
Im giving it a shot, Biden said matter-of-factly during a phone call with a House Democratic lawmaker within the past week a conversation the congressman recounted to The Hill and interpreted as a sure sign that Biden will run in 2020.
In the brief phone call, the former vice president asked if he could bounce some campaign strategy ideas off the lawmaker and invited the lawmaker to sit down with him in person in the near future. Biden also said he hoped to have the lawmakers support, something the lawmaker did not commit to.
Biden responded that there was no harm if they keep talking, according to the lawmaker who spoke to The Hill on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the phone conversation.
Biden did not share any details about when or where he planned to make his formal presidential announcement, the lawmaker said. Biden and his wife, Jill, just returned from vacation in St. Croix in the Caribbean, where they reportedly discussed potential pitfalls and began finalizing their plans, The Associated Press reported.
Biden spokesman Bill Russo refuted the idea that the former vice president is absolutely running: He has not made a final decision. No change.

(3,473 posts)And keep them both on the sidelines.
We need either a woman and / or person of color on at least one of the spots on the ticket. And we don't need an Old White Man on the top of the ticket, period, maybe as VP, just maybe. With an OWM at the top of the ticket, it will make us look like a reflection of the Republican Party. And that will be a losing ticket indeed.

(3,473 posts)It's my belief that an OWM, especially in the top spot, will handicap us in the General. I look at the long game, not just instant gratification.

I'm an under 40 lesbian, who supported Hill to the max, but I like Biden. I don't care if he's an old man breeder guy.
I kinda like Biden/Harris, but I will support almost any Dem over an Con or an Indy.
OhYeah!

(3,473 posts)built in handicaps. And those handicaps are there not because of anything they have done. And I will work to support candidates I believe can win and won't be shy as to why I believe some will have a much more difficult time of it.

(14,179 posts)I think the GOP is going to double down on fake news, and suppression. We need MORE than 3 million more votes to counter the cheating. So if Biden is the best candidate that can win DESPITE the handicap of Republican cheating, then of course.
A Biden / Harris ticket would be awesome!

(39,335 posts)Now not so much. Biden has a lot to offer, he can hit the ground running. His Veep will be well positioned to run in '24 so Harris might be perfect as Veep
