Bernie Sanders says his campaign will limit the hours staffers work so they are paid the equivalent of $15 an hour. “I’m very proud to be the first presidential candidate to recognize a union and negotiate a union contract,” he told me.

Glad that they have the union to negotiate and fight for back pay.

The union worked out pay for the workers at $36000/yr which was based on the 40 work week. Apparently in campaigns it is not unusual to work a lot of over time so some are working 60 hours a week. Since they appear to be salaried and not hourly workers they are making the argument that they are making less the $15 an hour. I always felt in the jobs I had where I was salaried that you looked at your yearly pay not your hourly pay as salaried people are ususally expected to work overtime when necessary. So the reduction in work hours does not effect their overall pay they still make the same amount they are just working less. The union needs to approach the campaign and renegotiate the contract if they want to work the 60 hour weeks and have that reflected in their salaries. This is another attempt to make Bernie look bad over something that is normal for salaried workers.

Since May. Someone in the union finally got fed up and went public. It’s a great negotiating tactic. The campaign and union seem to have agreed to pull back on hours. Union seems to be doing good work for who they represent. First by forcing the campaign to accept a policy protecting woman and now protecting their monetary value. Two items the management clearly wasn’t concerned about.

I was a salaried employee for 45+ years, I never resented working extra hours and did so when necessary. But I wasn't expected to put in 20 extra hours every week, just a few hours occasionally.

Why not just pay them $15 hour for the number of hours worked? That would certainly be the fair thing to do and then all would be happy.

...that workers put in 10+ hours of overtime? What if they refuse?

By the way, Biden's workers are being paid $48,000 annually with full healthcare coverage. That's 33% higher than Sanders' pay rate.
