Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren are on a 2020 collision course

Stephanie Ellis-Smith is one of many well-educated, female Democrats facing a new dilemma: She’s having trouble deciding between Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.

The philanthropic adviser from Seattle has long been impressed by Warren’s detailed policy agenda, but was also struck by Harris’s commanding performance in the first Democratic debate. She’s among hundreds of donors who wrote checks to both candidates in the last fundraising period.

“My heart so far has been with Elizabeth Warren, but after the debate I’ve been giving Kamala Harris a second look,” Ellis-Smith said.

As they rise to the top of 2020 Democratic presidential field, Harris and Warren are increasingly in direct competition for many of the same voters and donors, according to polls and fundraising data, with each drawing support from the party’s more affluent, college-educated wing — particularly women.

I think Harris will probably win though. She's got more establishment backing is my impression.

2. I think you're correct,

but even though I'm supporting her I need to see more definition to some of what she's proposing. However, she is a candidate with "it," with a presence that radiates even through TV. I'm perfectly happy with any of the front runners (save for maybe 1), and many further down the list also. I think a contest between these 2 accomplished and intelligent women would do nothing but help our party! Speaking for myself, I'd be happy with either outcome.

3. I'm not troubled at all. I think it's exhilarating, a matchup between two excellent competitors.

They are friends off the field too, apparently. So it should be a clean contest, just a battle of who has the best policies and, perhaps, the best temperament and presence. It will be fascinating to watch their campaigns progress.

This is a great field of candidates, and Harris and Warren are right up on top, and they are going up in the polls. They will get along just fine, and I don't see them having a problem with each other.

Warren & Sanders are in the progressive/change lane

Harris & Biden are competing for the mainstream Obama legacy.

8. I can see both Warren & Harris breaking out of the lanes the media wants to put them in.

Harris has progressive ideas, and Warren has Obama administration bona fides, having conceived of the CFPB that Obama championed.

And they both have the ability, the verbal gifts, to reject the media's narratives.

in the competition. The word collision is a little violent for me. They're more or less in concert with the other right now. Before or after their encounter on the debate stage, I'm on the why not both undecided team and loving it.

in the direction it does and still be good with the outcome. I want someone that will speak up to power when in office and I think both these candidates will be vocal.
