Democratic Primaries

... climate debate. The cutoff is August 28. Make a donation to help him raise his profile so he can get the required poll numbers. I'm going to. I'll try to do it through DU/Act Blue if I can figure out how. Maybe someone can tell me?

(2,113 posts)If people support him just to get him in this town hall they will keep him in the race for the nomination longer than he might otherwise be.

(14,311 posts)Hes a good candidate in a crowded field of good candidates. Its hard to get traction when your name recognition is low going in.
I would be more than happy to vote for him in the general. I think hed trounce Trump.

(2,113 posts)If Inslee can't get enough support from people who have him as their first choice to make the fall debates then so be it. And as for experience...the only two of the front runners with more experience in Congress than Beto O'Rourke is Biden and Bernie Sanders. Beto has THREE times as long served in national elected office as Harris and Buttigieg has no national experience.
If people try to prop up candidates out of sympathy then it only helps Trump by keeping the field more crowded for longer. I have nothing against Inslee...but if he's going to make it on that stage he needs to do it of his own accord.

Having held the legislative position of House member doesn't beat the qualification of a Governor who has had experience managing a whole state.

(2,113 posts)(based on my understanding of the requirements)
Which means if Inslee gets sympathy help just to make this town hall he will also be helped to qualify for the fall debates. There are already 6 who have qualified for the fall debates and two more are likely to, at least. I don't think it's a good idea to help candidates reach those requirements by people who have no intentions of actually voting for them in the primary because that takes time away from everyone else in debates in the fall.

(2,113 posts)That point is that IF people offer sympathy support to Inslee over this Climate town hall they, by default, are ALSO helping him make the fall debates. There are currently 6 candidates who have qualified for those fall debates. Two more, at least, have met the polling requirement but need more donors. They are very likely to make the debates. That would bring the number on the fall debate stage to 8 and would be one debate. For every additional candidate who makes those debates it takes away from the other candidates in the time they get on that stage.
If someone is fine potentially taking time away from their first choice in the fall debates then they should donate. If they are not then they should take that into consideration. That's my point.

In the days before opinion polls, cable TV, and online donations there would have been no question.

(108,977 posts)Now everything's about branding and media attention.
A two-term Governor who turned his state blue, after serving as both a member of Congress and in the state legislature, isn't taken seriously by the media -- even though the survival of the planet is the core of his concerns.

(2,113 posts)There have only been 3 Republican governors since 1933 and 8 Democratic governors.
It's also gone blue for every presidential election since 1988.
Our of the last 22 presidential elections going back to 1932, 15 have gone blue.
Seattle is one of the MOST liberal cities in the United States.
Saying Inslee turned Washington blue is a bit of a stretch to be quite honest. Yes, this really his only issue he campaigned on and he desperately wanted a Climate debate and it's a bummer he may not get to participate...but he should at least be happy that the issue is getting some attention.
