Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWhy Millennial Socialists Aren't Into Elizabeth Warren
When Warren delivered her opening statement at the start of the debate, the group listened politely. Some people clapped. But when it was Sanderss turn, they whooped and hollered. One person in the back yelled, Yes, Dad! They pounded the bar to show their support as Sanders rattled off statistics about health insurance and homelessness, and called out Amazon for not paying federal income taxes.
See? Theres a difference! Kastronis said, whipping around in his seat to face me. Hes calling out specific companies and specific people, whereas Warren said more feel-goody stuff.

Group members explained to me that Warren, with her myriad plans for addressing the countrys biggest problems, is operating under the false premise that good laws can fix an inherently broken system.
Its not that her policies are badits just that her stuff would work [better] in a system that wasnt a failed state, said Irene Koo, a 24-year-old editor at the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank. In other words, its too late for Warrens plans. The movement Sanders is building, members told me, aims to overturn that system and inspire a new generation of political leaders.

That's their fancy way of saying they want to burn it all down.

(53,774 posts)ideas. So it seems these socialists have met the fascist full-circle at 360 degrees and are in agreement to tear the country down.
It looks like it's shaping up to not vote Dem again if Sanders doesn't get in.
I can't, I just can't deal with the stupid that's going on.

(424 posts)None of them are Sanders. And the Sanders supporters they know do not get a lot of respect as far as educating themselves and being informed.

(4,341 posts)Warren has called out companies by name in the past but she had one minute to give her opening remarks, to dismiss her for that is very sad, it tells all of us that these groups are either fanatics or that they are basing their decisions on sound bytes.
By the way, I think both Sanders and Warren were the best yesterday, I like both, but I don't like that people don't seem to look at the big picture and instead are making decisions on their expectancy instead of going to Warren's website to find out if she is calling companies by name, and what else she is doing.
My take is that both Sanders and Warren are on similar pages, and what I like about them is that they will not mince words when calling out the creature.
And by the way, Sanders needs to shake off the "Socialist" level that he allowed to be tagged with, why? Because the majority of Americans don't have the faintest idea of what Socialism is, the republicans have made it into a bad word and in reality, that is not what Sanders stands for, he is more of a Democratic-Socialist and unless he shakes off that label he will give republicans a lot of ammunition and the masses will not be able to understand, they will panic.

(43,146 posts)I had to read it twice, but the logic is there. Maybe I should ask what's the diff between a broken sys and the biggest problems? Good laws can't fix either? A 'failed state' has no fix either?
Yes, they are not practical, they are ideological, they don't understand the connection between law and society.

(37,364 posts)Kastronis should heed how all that calling out is working on the right or on the playgrounds. I see Warren seeking buy in from many groups, a much better approach.

(58,355 posts)"That's their fancy way of saying they want to burn it all down."
It's their way of saying (whether it be climate change threatening life as we know it, outrageous student debt crippling upward mobility, a health care system designed primarily to profit the wealthy not care for the people, dysfunctional wealth disparity with government most definitely adversely affected by that, etc. etc. etc.) their home is on fire now, has been for decades and it's difficult to renovate a burning house.

(25,477 posts)When asked by Rachel Maddow how he would get Mitch McConnell to pass legislation if he were president, Bernie said he would go to Kentucky and hold a huge rally. The people would demand Mitch do his job and he would listen. He would go to other states and rally. "We need to rally the American people by the millions. That's what I mean by a political revolution."
That's his plan. Rallies. That's "taking on" all the billionaires and industries.
Will millions of Americans have to quit their jobs to rally all the time? What will they do then? What are they going to do with their kids? Where will everyone go to the bathroom at the rallies? Will there be food carts or should everyone bring sandwiches? Pets or no pets allowed? Where will millions of Americans fit at the same time -- a very large park? What if it rains? Where will everyone sleep? Take a shower? Who's gong to get permits for the rallies? What if the billionaires and industries don't care? How do airplanes stay in the air without falling down? Why do people go into the water where they know there are lots of sharks?
