The Madness of Democratic Candidates Trying to Cancel Obama

First of all: Did this second round of debates change anything? Maybe. We’ll see the polls starting over the weekend but earth-shaking change seems unlikely; ratings seems to have been really low (8.7 million on the first night, I don’t yet know about the second), and we didn’t learn a lot about any of them that we didn’t know.

I did however learn a really interesting thing: Barack Obama was apparently a Republican.

--- snip ---

Wednesday’s debate ended up being far more about Obama’s record than Trump’s. In fact, except for the rehearsed opening and closing statements, Obama came in for more criticism than Trump. This is absolute madness. And it’s political suicide.

Obama has a 97 percent approval rating among Democrats. And the way to rally and unify the party and get everybody on board in the effort to remove a racist authoritarian from the White House is to point out every single thing that Obama did wrong? Nothing will dispirit the Democratic rank and file more than that.

I kept listening to all those attacks on Obama’s record on immigration and criminal justice and all the rest thinking about these people watching and probably wondering what was going on here. The Constitution is being torched. The house is burning to the ground. And the villain Wednesday night was Obama?

Cory Booker at one point said to Biden that “you can’t have it both ways,” meaning of course that Biden can’t invoke the Obama association hoping to remind people of the good without accepting some of the bad. That’s fair. But you know who else can’t have it both ways? Every one of the rest of them.

MUCH more...

PS: Michael Tomasky must be a Republican. He relays the same damning info about Harris that Gabbard did.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

...I don't think so...President Obama was an excellent President but he was no saint...

...when he took office he could have had wall-street and banking by the balls and did an FDR but he chose not to...his record on immigration is less than stellar...

...Joe does want it both ways like Cory said but is that fair to stifle other primary contenders with legitimate questions about Joe's positions and history?

...I'm not one who's been blinded by Joe or his record but as front runner he should be able to take the heat...he must be able to take the heat...trump's attacks will be magnified a thousand fold over last night...better get use to it...

...there are no coronations in the Democratic Party...if Joe wants the nomination he must be made to fight for it and us Dem voters will benefit...

...that being said, I'm not insane...I will easily and enthusiastically cast my vote for Joe over trump if Joe's nominated...that's 'IF' he's nominated...but until then

...that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it...

record on immigration OR about Obama's administration. This writer is LYING.

Michael Tomasky IS a fucking Republican. He's a bullshit journalist playing conflict-driven party horse race politics

Does THIS sound like madness to ANY of you?

CASTRO Re the Economy: Well, first of all, there are a lot of Americans right now that are hurting. Just go and ask the folks that just received notice that they're getting laid off by General Motors, or ask the many folks who are sleeping on the streets in big cities and small towns across the United States, or ask fast food workers that I joined a couple of weeks ago that are working for minimum wage and can't provide for their families or pay the rent.

So the idea that America is doing just fine is wrong. Not only that, this president always likes to take credit, like he did this. We have now had about 105 straight months of positive job growth, the longest streak in American history.

Over 80 months of that was due to President Barack Obama. Thank you, Barack Obama. Thank you, Barack Obama.

Biden On Healthcare:

Mayor de Blasio ... said in the past that Democrats who wanted to keep the private insurance industry are defending a health care system that is not working. What's your response?

BIDEN: My response is, Obamacare is working. The way to build this and get to it immediately is to build on Obamacare. Go back and do -- take back all the things that Trump took away, provide a public option, meaning every single person in America would be able to buy into that option if they didn't like their employer plan, or if they're on Medicaid, they'd automatically be in the plan.

It would take place immediately. It would move quickly. And it would insure the vast, vast, vast majority of Americans.

In the meantime, what happens? Did anybody tell you how much their plans cost? My plan costs $750 billion. That's what it costs. Not $30 trillion.

I have plenty of other Biden quotes, if anyone wants to see what he said about immigration.

DeBlasio also corrected Chris Matthews said that NO one criticized the Obama administration; they only asked Biden about HIS role. AND that media have to clear up their misunderstandings which show in how their questions misrepresent what they saw.

I saw it, too.

NOTHING in the debate was madness.

ALL of the debate was courteous in spite of clarifying differnences.

ALL of that debate was the epitome of civilized discourse.

Bullshit media should try it sometime.

What Democrats have typically not done well since Reagan's time is connect their policies to their larger beliefs. In fact they have usually tried to hide those beliefs, or change the conversation when the subject arose.

“I think attacking President Obama is bad policy and bad politics,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut said Thursday. Of Biden’s tenure as vice president, Blumenthal added: “He owns it, for better or worse. But he should be proud of it.”

Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois also suggested the Democratic race should be marked by a more hands-off approach toward Obama.

“You can disagree with him, and I have, but the bottom line is ... he did an extraordinary job, and he should be given that recognition by those that are running for the presidency.”
