Newsweek: Warren Was Praised After Debates, But Biden Dominates Polling Among Democratic Voters

https://www.newsweek.com/warren-praised-debate-biden-leads-poll-1452373

Despite a no-holds-barred Democratic primary debate where leading 2020 candidate Joe Biden fended off attacks from nearly every corner of the stage in Detroit, the former vice president has not lost his unshakable grip on the primary electorate, according to a new post-debate survey from Morning Consult.

During Wednesday's second-round debate, Biden appeared bruised by unrelenting attacks on his long record in the U.S. Senate and in the White House, but he ultimately emerged unscathed, topping out the poll with 32-percent support among Democratic voters.

Senator Elizabeth Warren, who paired with Senator Bernie Sanders to defend a broadly progressive 2020 agenda against skeptical moderates on the outskirts of the debate stage lineup, did not appear to benefit from her centrality during Tuesday's first-round debates. She remained in her familiar third-place slot at 15-percent support, trailing Sanders by three points.

Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, who took turns railing against Biden, did not appear to have reaped significant gains from their performances either. Booker is still middling at 3 percent in the polls, and support for Harris continued to sit at 10 percent.

-snip-

Not sure what is meant by "Biden appeared bruised" but I agree that he had to deal with "unrelenting attacks."

I'm a little confused by the article saying "Booker is still middling at 3 percent." Maybe they're trying to suggest that he's somewhere between the 4 highest polling candidates and those polling at 1% and 0%. But at 3%, after his attack on Biden, Booker has less than 1/10 the support Biden has.

And Harris, though she's said she's "obviously a top-tier candidate," has less than a third the support Biden has. She's 10 points ahead of the people polling at 0%, but she's 22 points behind Biden, so they're hardly in the same tier.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

I like Joe. Everybody likes Joe. Joe is very likable.

But the status quo before Trump wasn't very good. Many big problems weren't addressed. That's why people gambled on Trump's "drain the swamp", "proven businessman", BS.

But, things are so much different now(Way WORSE!).. President Obama, VP Biden, and their Team did get us a brilliant recovery package, though, to lift us out of the abyss, that bush-cheney dumped us in!

And, we're gonna need another one of those!

As Cha said, Biden is "going forward" from what we have now.
BUT where i disagree with you is during Obama years there were tremendous problems, especially during the first term. Obama saved us from the brink of financial disaster, one of the administraton's biggest achievements and Joe was with him during all of that. There were many other achievements. You can google them.

Really, I don't care right now who wins it, although I wish the bottom half would quickly go away. They are taking too much oxygen.

Look at the great talent we have (should they not get the nom...):

* Kamala Harris - The best Attorney General we could have

* Elizabeth Warren - The most qualified Treasury Secretary possible

* Jay Inslee- I can't think of a more passionate EPA chief

* Amy Klobuchar- if anyone can sweet-talk all those career diplomats into returning, it's her

* Bernie- nobody is more passionate about healthcare, so let him run the Department of Health and Human Services

* Beto- He has listened better to both sides than any other- let him run Homeland Security

* Marrianne Williamson- Perhaps let her investigate federal pot legalization

It's a gender issue. We need to go toe-to-toe against Trump. I'm not sure voters think a female candidate can do that. It is so ingrained in our culture, even at this late day and age.

And sorry.. I have to say "Ha!" I'm sure they will continue to attack Joe Biden as long as he is the front runner.. but for now I'm happy to say it hasn't worked.

Thank You, highplains

This is not going to be a popular comparison but I think he's the left's version of Trump. When I say that, I don't mean someone who is a loudmouthed bigot - but a perceived tough, tell it like it is kinda guy. Biden has been known for his gaffes - but a good amount of his gaffes are just him kinda talking real talk. Like when he said Obama would be tested early in his presidency, or when he called Obamacare a Big Fucking Deal. These are endearing traits that I think actually helped boost Trump in 2016.

But the one major comparison, I guess, is that the same dismissiveness we heard about Trump throughout the 2016 election is now being employed with Biden.

Trump's popularity is just name recognition - it won't last.

Once Trump has to debate, he'll falter.

Trump's gaffes will catch up to him.

Trump can't win.

These are the same comments tossed around about Biden.

The difference is that Biden is actually making a play for the humanity in us - Trump divided us by it. But there's fundamental similarities that endear both - the fact they're not the typical looking politician. That plays extremely well.
