(51,550 posts)What I wouldn't do to have my old 65 Mustang fastback again!
I spent my late teens around some really cool mechanics at my neighborhood Union 76 gas station. They helped me cherry out an old 65 Mustang I bought for $1,000. Had 302 heads put on my 289 block to up the compression, with a Hurst shifter and McCleod pressure plate, I could chirp rubber in every gear. Thing was a rocket. But needed 94 octane. Ended up selling it when I started college to buy a Honda Accord, needed a sensible, reliable car. Damn, I started grieving as soon as that rich squid who bought it pulled away with it.
Today's cars just don't have the same soul, kinda like today's music. Now I'm in my 50s, a soccer mom, who still misses her favorite toy of all time!

(31,261 posts)They were stylish and elegant, with fantastic paint jobs. I am only familiar with late Seventies and onward cars and to tell the truth, a modern or even Eighties muscle car would completely smoke the earlier stuff, but they can NEVER look awesome while doing it.
When I see a mint 68 Mustang or Camaro, my lips drool. The paint job, the styling, it is just all there.

(51,550 posts)Nothing like the steel and chrome of my old Mustang. It was simple, solid, real, with character and beauty. I could fix things on it. No computer chip ran it, only me.

(34,857 posts)And his son Beau restored it before he died. Obviously, it's a car that holds a great deal of sentimental value. Kind of a mean-spirited post.

(1,810 posts)How someone can watch a video like this and have such a powerful emotional response. While Im glad I dont get such strong waves of emotions crashing over me from watching the mundane, it must lead to one heck of an exciting life. I cant imagine the ups and downs.

Loved the Stingrays and speed. In fact, I've considered finding a restored '69 or '70 for the rest of my life.

(13,390 posts)That's the stereotype I can't help but think of when I see the gleeful response to such toys. I thought celebrating cars was a superficial and juvenile effort to prove coolness in high school. Only moreso now.

So nice to see someone enjoying the old muscle car they were able to hold on to for all these years, unlike the rest of us who had them slip through our fingers along the way. I will always miss my old 65 Mustang.

(63,645 posts)I'm surprised that I've never heard of Biden's 1967 Corvette before now. Seems like a powerful symbol of the Biden brand. Like Fred Thompson's red pickup truck, except (unlike Thompson) Biden has actually owned the car for 50 years. He's authentic. The real deal.

(1,501 posts)In 2008, there was a video of Joe washing it in the driveway of his family home with a garden hose.He was wearing a pair of shorts, flip flops and no shirt just like a regular guy. He was very proud of the car, as I recall.
It was not a staged photo-op. Somebody just caught him doing it because back then, his family home was an average house with a short driveway which he had lived in with his mom for decades and where he had raised his kids after the tragedy.
Yeah, he's the real deal just like Obama was and still is.

(7,358 posts)I like cars, but I also like to get where I'm going. I'm in no hurry to die. We're on to a new age of electric, hydrogen etc. No more fossil fuel burning cars. Call me strange and un-American, but I don't like loud cars, loud motorcycles, etc. I like peace and quiet. I rode around in a '68 GTO back in the day, Gas, Tires and Oil was more like it. I think it got about 10 miles to the gallon if not less. If I had an old vintage car now, it would be an old Cadillac, maybe a '66 or so, not sure. But I love the smooth rides and the luxurious interiors and space.
