(10,828 posts)Because Fred Guttenberg has been out there every day since losing his own daughter to fight the good fight, speak against gun violence, push for gun regulation so other parents don't face what he's gone through, a soul-shattering loss. Not surprised that Vice President Biden reached out with comfort and solace. Biden certainly knows what grief is all about.
As for Guttenberg, he seems to be following Joe Biden's advice from the Anderson Cooper interview last night--find a purpose. Fred Guttenberg appears to have found a profound purpose to honor his daughter.
Good one on both these men.

(51,590 posts)of a loved one. When he lost his family a friend gave him good advice and it really helped him to deal with grief. He didn't think anyone REALLY understood how he felt until this time. His friend advised him to get large chart paper and mark how he felt on a scale of 1-10 and to date it then put it away for 6 months then get it out and rate his feelings and to date it again too, etc. Over time it did get better. I have a book called "How To Survive The Loss Of A Love" about dealing with any loss...a job, a family member, a relationship, e pet, etc. One page shows a chert like a lightening bolt zig zagging up and down but eventually it does end up higher and higher over time.

A truly good man, win or lose. I hope he wins.
