Related: About this forumAnother Biden Gaffe... This time with Parkland
Someone is going to eventually post this, so I figured it's best to do it sooner rather than later. All the usual suspects online are already pouncing, and I'm sure it will be the same for the folks on here.
I like Biden, but all these mishaps are really concerning. Even if he's fine cognitively, his opponents are not going to lack for the (many) instances that call that into question. I don't think he can really sustain making multiple gaffes almost daily and have enough people believe he still possesses the necessary mental acuity.

(24,324 posts)I learned from Japanese friends in US and Kyoto.
TONKATSU-
-katsu is short for katsuretsu - means the sauce.. 'ton' is pork..
zucchini in Japanese is ズッキーニ zukkini :> )
( I should have called it zukkini tempura...)
um--- ok the sauce-- I vary it each time.. but can include these---
- ketchup
- soy sauce
- worchestershire sauce
- grated ginger juice
- mirin
-rice vinegar
-I think that's about it..
--boneless, pounded center cut pork chop or fish are deep fried in one piece-- takes maybe 4 minutes or less? depends on thickness.
-for deep frying any katsu-- pork, fish, first---dip in potato(corn) starch, egg and bread crumbs..
-I deep fry in about and 8? quart sauce pan-- with several inches of peanut oil at-- oh maybe 375? I just know when it is the temp is right... if it too hot the food scorches, if too cool it gets soggy...
-take our pork and rest on drying grate or paper towels.
- then slice the pork in about 5/8" wide slices and serve on a bed of shredded cabbage. Sauce on the side...
SUNOMONO-
- sauce. basically rice vinegar and sugar. or mirin. maybe a couple drops of soy sauce
Too lazy to type out SUNOMONO- :> )
This one is not bad--https://www.justonecookbook.com/sunomono-with-cucumber-and-wakame/
TEMPURA- THIS is very difficult to make well... I won't pretend to tell somebody... I'm getting better, little by little...
If you are ever in Kyoto and want tempura. THESE are my favorite places..
-Shunsai Tempura Arima - near Shijo-Karasuma intersection
-Tempura Yoshioka- very small--one block north and about 4 blocks east.. on the corner.
You should have a reservation-- different styles but master tempura makers.. the owner at Tempura Yoshioka has been making tempura in the same place for some 30 years and his father before him.
OH, and if you want a dynamite sushi bar( my #2 in Kyoto) Senta Sushi- about 1/2 block west of Tempura Arima.
Oh , and as long as you are there, walk another block west and you will come across Sukemasa- dynamite gyoza joint...
OK, while I'm on it.. You want the BESTEST Kyosaba in Kyoto ? -the famous Kyoto style saba (mackerel) ?-- you're in luck, I know where it is -walk about 6 blocks north from Tempura Yoshioka (a bit north of Shijo-dori,and on the left, 10 feet before the the entrance to the Nishiki Market on the right is Sakai. It is a tiny hole in the wall 6 seat place... they open at noon. get there early... !!!
HA, and just past the Nishiki Market entrance on the right is the Matsukawa Liquor Store. You MUST go here.. any time after 7 pm. Trust me.... it's the funkiest of the old style stand-up 'bars' in the city. I know the owner...
NONE of these places has the name in English.. just google them..
Have fun..

(24,324 posts)About 1 1/4" - 1/1'2" squares of somewhat firm dofu.. best is 'firm silken dofu' but many of that type are too soft.. it should be soft but firm and easily stay in the cubes.
Heat peanut oil for deep frying to about 350.. not TOO hot..
Deep fry the cubes for maybe 60 seconds or less- just until the surface is a very light brown..
Drain on draining grill or paper towels
Sauce---dashi making (your own is MUCH, MUCH better than bought in the store)..,with some soy sauce and mirin (sake, optional)
Put 3-4 cubes in small bowls.
Pour a little sauce over.. not a lot.
On top of the dofu put a little grated daikon, grated ginger , sliced scallions and bonito flakes- katsuobushi -or can omit ginger... depends...
Serve immediately while hot and fresh..!!

A day ahead of March for Our Lives, the South Florida school shooting survivors leading the gun control demonstration made their presence felt Friday in Washington, pressing lawmakers for their cause and asking why more restrictions hadnt already been passed.
Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where a shooter claimed 17 lives February 14 in Parkland, met face-to-face with legislators as part of a full day of pre-march events in the nations capital.
Snip...
Survivors of the Parkland shooting quickly became the faces of a national conversation on gun control, and are lobbying lawmakers for more restrictive gun laws including a ban on assault-style rifles and higher-capacity magazines.
Small groups of students met Friday morning with members of Congress while other students visited the Newseum to discuss their experiences in the mass shooting.
Former Vice President Joe Biden also met privately with some Stoneman Douglas students and their parents in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

But Biden has, in the last few days alone..
- confused Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher. Again
- said "poor kids are just as bright as white kids"
- declared "we choose truth over facts"
- referred to the shootings in El Paso and Dayton as having happened in "Houston" and "Michigan."
- said he was VP when Parkland happened.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/1287134184#post20
As this is a discussion board, I didn't think that was too out of line. I guess I wasn't expecting so much the equivalent of a Bernie Bro response of, "SCREW YOU, HATER!" Many of you find this hard to believe, but I consider myself undecided because I'm UNDECIDED. Not everything is a cynical ploy to smear another candidate.
Biden will be 78 by the time he takes office. I don't know about many of you, but I'm old enough to remember
Reagan and all the rumors about him towards the end of his second term. Many of us also have parents or other relatives that have had dementia and remember how those 'senior moments' became more and more frequent.
Yes, I'm concerned when I notice in my social media circles (I don't just mean blue check marks), that people, generally supportive of Biden, expressing doubts (and have been) about where Biden's head is. Since Thursday, he has made... four gaffes, I think? When I see people start discussing the onset of their mother's or father's dementia in a serious manner, that's not the conversation any of us want to be having around Biden. If he looks increasingly disengaged or not with it, that'll be the one we have more often than not. Not a good thing. It's not something that can be just waved away or silenced by shouting, "BUT TRUMP!" Many people (not just progressives/right-wingers) already think the campaign is trying to shield him for reasons more serious than he hasn't historically been a great campaigner. If they continue to do that or expose him to more scrutiny that results in a cavalcade or blunders, it could be very problematic defeating Trump, which is very much what I care most about.
I'm not trying to convince anyone NOT to support Biden. I'm looking for reasons why "I" should support Biden. When I encounter people in real life, that are already skeptical of Biden, and to whom I've already defended Biden from charges of "senility" and the like, I hope to have a better response considering they will have additional points the next time I see them. Somehow I don't think treating them as insincere trolls that should be dismissed will be very effective there.
Since some have asked who I support or am considering:
BIDEN <Gasp!> But I have concerns that many of you think aren't even worth addressing or taking seriously
Pete I worry that he's too young, too inexperienced (not sure how being gay would play in the GE either)
Warren (I like her personally) Though I worry she is too liberal both for me and the GE
I had liked Harris, but I was always on the fence about how authentic she is. After the busing attack on Biden though, I can't help but think she does everything as a calculated political move.
Luckily, I don't judge candidates by his/her most ardent defenders (though it's exceptionally hard with many Bernie supporters)

your opinion that he wont make a good president. Warren and Sanders are also too old to do the job.
You are stuck for now with three top-tier candidates who are simply too old to fit your notion of
the age range a president must be in to make a good president.
Well, blame modern medicine and the fact that some folks over 68 do have the qualifications, experience, and knowledge to be an excellent president.
Such a one is Joe Biden.
Although neither Warren nor Sanders have equal job-specific knowledge and experience to Bidens,
and both are seriously lacking foreign policy bonafides, they are more than alert, energetic, and
intellectually developed to run circles around most people decades younger. Many believe they
would make the best Prez ever. This includes independents.
Is 2020 the year of the elder? As a baby boomer, you should have seen this trend coming.
If FDR could govern in a wheelchair, Kennedy inspire our nation for generations while often in pain and ill, think what a person with character, wisdom, moral fortitude, and good health could do, at any age, though wisdom and character often grow with the years.

Eyes on the prize, people. Joe is a good man, a bright man, highly qualified -- and occasionaly trips over his own tongue and always has. He's so far above Trump you can't even measure it.
Cut it out and let idiots like Chuck Todd do this dirty work.

(29,674 posts)He can easily-and sadly-explain this away as there have been so many school shootings he-and the public-sometimes jumble them. He could use it as a great argument for better gun safety standards by expressing that there never should have been so many that they become blurred.
A good campaign manager could easily work around this.

In 2018, people were still calling him "Mr. Vice President," so it's understandable if he mis-remembered a 2018 event as while he was VP. People at that meeting probably addressed him as "Mr. Vice President."

(12,814 posts)If EVERYbody's slip-ups were emphasized in the media, we'd see Biden is no more "gaffe-prone" than the next person. But that doesn't happen because for the 2020 campaign the media has cast Biden in the role of The Gaffe-Prone Guy.
I've seen more stories about the slight goofs he made in his speech than I have about the other 99.999% if it.

(8,144 posts)and survivors right after meeting with them, maybe time to revise your post. So he said he was VP when he met with them. The essential fact is that he did meet with them when Pence would not.
Biden has been involved with gun control for years. He wrote strong gun control legislation and again handled the issue in the Obama administration.

As Waldman also wrote, Trump is waging a reelection campaign based on racism and fear, not to mention being the most prolific liar in American political history (he just passed 12,000 false or misleading claims). And what makes the focus on Bidens mouth extra aggravating is how it wipes our memories of the moronic things said by this president, as my follower @absolut_irish was so kind to remind Bidens critics.

Some of these are funny. Some are worthy of a cocked eyebrow. But they are not nearly as consequential as the racist and white supremacist beliefs parroted by Trump and the right-wing echo chamber that found their way into the manifesto of the suspect in the El Paso mass shooting, who told police his target was "Mexicans. The atmosphere of menace and danger is now indisputable. Your time would be better spent worrying about the shredding of our values, ideals and the rule of law than the flubs of a particular candidate who would put an end to this shameful chapter.

Thats a lot of people back there for a like an 11 oclock speech. Thats a lot of people. (Laughter.) Thats a lot. (In fact, the speech was after 2:00 pm ET.)
This Shell petrochemical plant in Beaver County, Pennsylvania I did very well here. We did very well. How many points did we win by? Does anybody know? I'll tell you. Isn't it, I think, 28 points?
That's a lot. (Trump won Beaver County by 19 points in 2016.)
I got sued on a thing called emoluments. Emoluments. You ever hear the word? Nobody ever heard of it before. They went back. Now, nobody looks at Obama getting $60 million for a book. (Obama signed his book deal in 2017, after leaving office.)
Trumps two and a half years in office definitely have changed the political and media world.
Shouldnt they also change how we cover gaffes and misstatements?
