Seth Abramson to media: For every story on a Biden gaffe, give us a story on a Trump lie

Abramson nails the foolishness of the media:

Media wants to be evenhanded? OK:

For *every* story on Biden's once-a-week gaffes, I want a story on *each* of the 11.5 *lies* Trump tells *daily*.

That's right: breathlessly covering Biden's occasional, quickly corrected gaffes will cost you *81* Trump-is-lying stories weekly.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Going into the lion's den here folks. Getting indignant about media attention to Biden's words is pointless. If he's the nominee, he's going up against the sleaziest politician I've ever seen in my life. Trump will distort and outright fabricate anything and everything he can, whether Biden makes a verbal flub or not.

Big fuckin' deal.

There was a time when the right wing crapped all over soon-to-be President Obama for his use of teleprompters.
Eventually, it became clear to the public that the objection was all the Right had, and Obama went on to win.

There's no need to be sensitive over this. It'll pass. If that's all they've got, they're fucked.

If he hadn’t been doing it forever I might think it indicated something. But public speaking is very, very hard. Some people are glib and some aren’t. You can do that kind of thing and have it mean nothing more than your brain does this glitchy thing that has no other meaning than that.

For most of us it does increase with age. Just because we have anomia does not mean we aren’t smart, wise and capable. It’s just not an indicator.

How many outright lies is Trump up to???? Last time I heard it was well over 10,000. Abramson cites 11.5 a day. Then there's always the uptick when the Trumpster perceives the news is going negative on him.

Just gave a very long list of Tump being wrong! For once they actually did, including the conspiracy about Clinton.

It is clear Trump is scared to death. Twisting, turning, squirming, fits of rage.

His whole filthy, sordid, corrupt life is coming apart.

Banks have ignored his law suits, turned over records to te House committee. The Jeffrey Epsteing connection, money laundering corrupt use of his charity. Illegals working at all hid clubs. Caging Children Separation policies. Lies, love of Dictators.

I get so sick an tired when every time I mention a Republican problem and am hit with the knee jerk "but what about" or "same is true for both sides".
We need to be paying attention and call it like it is. Our job throughout the primary season is to hold candidates to the fire and harden them for the fight ahead.
I personally do not give a flying f what the lsos is up to. I have heard enough of his lies and have seen his actions to know it is time to move on.

- unless, of course, they are spoken by Joe Biden. We have been told over and over that Biden is "gaffe-prone," and the result is that every verbal error he makes, however minor or quickly corrected, is called a gaffe, even though it would probably be ignored if anyone else said it. But since it's Biden, who everybody knows is "gaffe-prone," yes indeed! the verbal typo is reported and retweeted ad nauseam. Because Biden is "gaffe-prone."

Trump, in contrast, is "lie-prone." Isn't that just a little bit worse?

"Trump made 56 false claims last week"
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump made 56 false claims last week, delivering his usual assortment of dishonesty about immigration, his popularity and his record.

That was down from 78 false claims the week prior and 61 false claims the week before that.
Where he made the biggest numbers: Trump made 26 false claims at his campaign rally in Cincinnati, 13 more in various exchanges with the media, seven on Twitter, five in an interview with C-SPAN.
Top categories: Eighteen false claims were about the economy or trade; 10 were about Trump's popularity, his crowds or others' crowds; 10 were about immigration; eight were about former President Barack Obama's record.
The most egregious false claim: Support from African Americans
Trump's stories are peppered with unnamed validators -- "many people" who say he's right about something, "tough guys" backstage who break down crying in his presence, a "friend" who just called him to say something dramatic.

My response to both was the same, as it was when I was asked about the Biden issue on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.” There is a racist sitting in the Oval Office implementing a white supremacist policy agenda. So, you focus on Biden’s mouth marbles, and I’ll keep my eyes on the prize. The prize being the eviction of Trump from the White House.

As Waldman also wrote, Trump “is waging a reelection campaign based on racism and fear,” not to mention being “the most prolific liar in American political history (he just passed 12,000 false or misleading claims).” And what makes the focus on Biden’s mouth extra aggravating is how it wipes our memories of the moronic things said by this president, as my follower @absolut_irish was so kind to remind Biden’s critics.

Some of these are funny. Some are worthy of a cocked eyebrow. But they are not nearly as consequential as the racist and white supremacist beliefs parroted by Trump and the right-wing echo chamber that found their way into the manifesto of the suspect in the El Paso mass shooting, who told police his target was "Mexicans.” The atmosphere of menace and danger is now indisputable. Your time would be better spent worrying about the shredding of our values, ideals and the rule of law than the flubs of a particular candidate who would put an end to this shameful chapter.

35. What about trump's gaffes?
Wed Aug 14, 2019, 06:39 PM
Aug 2019

Biden's so-called gaffes will not be an issue in the general election https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/democrats-battle-each-other-trump-s-greatest-ally-time-n1042191#anchor-Whatabouthisgaffes

But if Biden’s gaffes were substantial news, why wasn’t there the same level of discussion on what President Trump said yesterday in Pennsylvania?

“That’s a lot of people back there for a — like an 11 o’clock speech. That’s a lot of people. (Laughter.) That’s a lot.” (In fact, the speech was after 2:00 pm ET.)

“This Shell petrochemical plant in Beaver County, Pennsylvania — I did very well here. We did very well. How many points did we win by? Does anybody know? I'll tell you. Isn't it, I think, 28 points?
That's a lot.” (Trump won Beaver County by 19 points in 2016.)

“I got sued on a thing called ‘emoluments.’ Emoluments. You ever hear the word? Nobody ever heard of it before. They went back. Now, nobody looks at Obama getting $60 million for a book.” (Obama signed his book deal in 2017, after leaving office.)

Trump’s two and a half years in office definitely have changed the political and media world.

Shouldn’t they also change how we cover gaffes and misstatements?
If I were to vote in a presidential

Joe Biden
