Colorado state lawmakers, activists endorse Kamala Harris in presidential primary

I am surprised they are announcing this early, rather than waiting until close to the primaries.

A pair of Colorado state lawmakers and a cadre of influential black and Latino activists are backing U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris in the Democratic presidential primary, Harris’ campaign announced Monday.

State Reps. Leslie Herod and Serena Gonzales-Gutierrez, both Denver Democrats, are among the Coloradans who are formally supporting the California U.S. senator in her bid for the party’s nomination.

“Instead of ripping apart families and terrorizing immigrant communities, Kamala understands immigrants are a critical part of our nation’s fabric,” Gonzales-Gutierrez said in a statement provided by the Harris campaign. “She has a plan to protect Dreamers and their families from living in fear. Kamala approaches policy from a place of compassion and thoughtfulness — and that’s exactly what we need from our next president.”

The formal endorsement announcement, first reported by The Denver Post, follows Harris’ recent campaign rally in Denver, where Herrod and Gonzales-Gutierrez also spoke.
