"SNIP.....

“There’s an awful lot of really good Republicans out there. I get in trouble for saying that with Democrats, but the truth of the matter is, every time we ever got in trouble with our administration, remember who got sent up to Capitol Hill to fix it? Me. Because they know I respect the other team.”

— Joe Biden, quoted by The Hill, at a Massachusetts fundraiser.

But, Biden, who leveraged his decades serving in the Senate to help become one of the Obama administration’s chief negotiators on Capitol Hill, has maintained that reaching across the aisle is the only way to implement long-lasting change.

“If you start off with the notion there's nothing you can do, well why don't you all go home then, man? Or let's start a real physical revolution if you're talking about it. Because we have to be able to change what we're doing within our system,” Biden said in June.

Had the "catastrophe" of having Obamacare repealed come to fruition then, perhaps, Biden would be singing a different tune - but, as it stands, he has proven that talking to the other side worked to save Obamacare. you don't need "faith" in them. Just talk to them. You never know if you just don't even try. They are getting worse and worse, true, but there is no point in just giving up. First, we'd hear them calling Dems spineless, etc. Second when Biden tried telling us he agrees they are getting worse, Kamala thought that was a good time to spin it as being hurtful to black people rather than acknowledging the real point he was trying to make - though it seems not to have raised her in the eyes of the Dem voters as she thought. That distraction got us away from realizing Joe acknowledges that it is much harder now.

53. If we want lasting laws vs executive orders . . .
Sun Aug 18, 2019, 01:30 PM
Aug 2019

that can be erased, washed away by a turnover election then we need a bipartisan approach led by someone who recognizes how the system works, rather than relying on wishful thinking. Biden is simply telling the truth and keeping the door open for the next Democratic Administration to get shit done. Anything short of that ends with permanent gridlock, a road to nowhere.

Hate fests feel good but in the end produce nothing more than hateful rhetoric and intractable stances. Joe Biden has years of legislative experience, knows that schmoozing and arm-twisting can produce results. Consider the fate of the ACA had it been accomplished by Executive Order. Poof. Gone in a heartbeat. We want gun control/regulation. Do we settle for 4 or 8 years and hope for the best? Or do we push for a lasting solution? Same for Climate Change and immigration. Temporary relief or long-term results?

The only way to move forward with any progressive idea is creating and passing laws to that effect. And that means bipartisanship whether it makes us gag or not. Biden is setting the stage, saying: I will work the Congress. I can do this because I've done it before.

He could lie, of course, pretend that Dems are suddenly going to have a Super-Duper majority and all things will be passed and turned around. Instead, he's talking reality, pointing to the system that we have and how to work it for the ordinary American's advantage.

Because that's how shit gets done. Sausage-making, not fairytales.

Thank You.. you should make it an OP if you felt like it!

If we become obstructive like McConnell, the public will consider us just like republicans and tune us out. Getting nothing done is not the way to govern and Biden knows that.

59. Biden's Weakness May Be His Strength

Joe is the most electable candidate. Joe is the best candidate to defeat trump https://politicalwire.com/2019/08/19/bidens-weakness-may-be-his-strength/

“Despite a seemingly unending series of gaffes and unimpressive performances in the two Democratic primary debates so far, Joe Biden retains a solid lead in almost all polls. He’s been consistently between 10 to 20 percentage points ahead of his main rivals nationally and also enjoys comfortable margins in Iowa and New Hampshire. By most counts, even if Bernie Sanders’ and Elizabeth Warren’s projected scores were to be combined – which almost never happens when a candidate drops out – it still wouldn’t be enough to match Biden’s projected score.”

“The reason for this is to be found in what many consider Biden’s main weakness. He’s an old-school candidate, with a policy platform and campaigning style that seem to belong to another political era. Even Barack Obama originally chose him as vice-presidential candidate to reassure electors with a message of compromise and reliability. And that was nearly 12 years ago – before anyone even thought Donald Trump could stand a chance as president!”
