Rising Warren faces uphill climb with black voters (The Hill)

Snip...

A Fox News survey released last week showed Warren receiving 8 percent among black voters, a grim statistic if she is looking to win the nomination.

Snip...

“Their lack of familiarity with Warren, as well as her own brand of disruptive politics, may not clearly explicate a path to political and economic power for older, more moderate African Americans,” added Smikle.
Older black voters tend to be more “pragmatic,” which translates to support for Biden, added Clemmie Harris, an assistant professor of American history and Africana studies at Utica College.

Many black voters — and particularly older voters — “do not identify as being progressive,” said Harris, who added that Warren “has to figure out how to organically connect with black voters who don’t see themselves as progressive.”

Gunn said Biden has done something else that has aligned himself with black voters: He talks about his allegiance to Obama. “He’s become known as the man who had Barack Obama’s back.”

He said Warren could highlight her working relationship with Obama — particularly on issues of financial reform— but has yet to articulate that connection. “She doesn’t play that up enough,” he said. One former Obama White House aide agreed that it will be tough to pull support away from Biden, who has decades of deep connections to the Congressional Black Caucus and civil rights groups.

If she cannot connect with black voters she cannot be our nominee. I think its possible but so far I dont see it.

Here is another similar recent good article..

3. What actually helps Biden is (IMHO) . . .

his years of establishing and nurturing relationships within the AA community. IN SC, for instance, Biden and his family have spent years vacationing in the state, meeting people, exchanging ideas and laughs and everyday conversation. He didn't just helicopter in with a raft of ideas or policy papers promising to be supportive and/or an agent of change. He's been on the ground over many years, developing a network of friendships and trust. That's the difference. It's why Hillary Clinton did so well in the South because she'd been there, not just yesterday but a whole slew of yesterdays.

Certainly, Biden's tight relationship with President Obama is a true advantage but I think the relationships with politicians and ordinary citizens is equally important. Because people remember what you've done, what you've said, how you've reached out. They remember.

I knew it's a hit piece/propaganda. Yeah, trying to remove tRUMP and the Reich Wing from political power would certainly be "disruptive" to them, but not to the rest of us. To ensure my own sanity and
properly schedule my time I didn't read any further than that.

5. AA primary voters are a huge obstacle for any progressive candidate.

African Americans are socially conservative relative to the average Democrat and play an out-sized role in several critical southern primaries. This wall that Bernie ran head on into in 2016. Biden has a huge advantage here.

And then there's this opinion piece at The Root:

How do you rank a campaign’s Black Power? Well, we have our “FLEX” rating, aka:

* Finances: Are you paying black staff, advertisers, consultants?
* Legislation: What legislation are you pushing or have passed for black people?
* External Polling: No matter how good you are for black people, if your poll numbers are terrible we can’t rank you that high!
* X-Factor: What’s your rhetoric like? How do you handle a crisis or the kinds of events and scandals that directly impact black lives?

This week’s big riser is Elizabeth Warren, who jumps five spots back into No. 1 after realizing that cash rules everything around black folks. This week’s big loser? Joe Biden, who drops four spots and, quite frankly, is reminding America every week that he might just be a better general election candidate than a primary one. Kirsten Gillibrand fell off the list after a second lackluster week, and our new No. 10 will only be around for one week, but we thought it was worth it!

11. Well, it's about a bit more than that

They cite other things in boosting her ranking:

#1: Sen. Elizabeth Warren

After a bad week on the trail, the lady with a plan has been the only 2020 candidate sounding the alarm that another recession is around the corner and, specifically, how that could harm black folks, and how she plans to prevent that. She tweeted Van Newkirk’s brilliant article “The Great Land Robbery,” highlighting how the federal government has been stealing our 40 acres for the last century. Warren is one of the few candidates to sign a petition ending racial profiling in Des Moines, Iowa, and she’s moved into second place there. Quite the bounce-back week for her.

Overall, though, I agree with the idea that Warren has a lot of work yet to do, and that it is important to excite this crucial part (arguably the real core) of the party's base to crush Trump in 2020.

If she were to win the nomination and black voter support for her remained tepid, then it will really hurt him in the general election if they are not enthused enough to turn out and vote for her.
