Nearly half the Convention delegations will be in Illinois

Ironically, Illinois will not be one of them

2020 DNC: 31 delegations to stay in Wisconsin and 26 in Illinois

It turns out the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee is going to be very good for the Illinois hotel industry.

Twenty-six of the delegations attending the convention will be housed in hotels in northern Illinois, while 31 delegations will be staying in the Milwaukee area, according to a list obtained Thursday by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The breakdown reveals the regional nature of the convention, which will be centered at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

DNC will promise that I'll be downtown. Alternatively, I'm considering renting a 4 BR house for the week with several friends who will be attending.

Airbnb offerings in Milwaukee were quite good but they might be sold out by now. Friends of mine chose a large home in downtown Milwaukee two months ago.

FWIW, unless you have to come back for a business call or a nap, you spend very little time in your hotel room.

IN Charlotte, on one day I was booked for a breakfast, breakfast, brunch, lunch, lunch, afternoon reception and early evening policy session before going to the Convention Hall.

if not, then this could be a huge problem in terms of age and money. People under 26 can't rent cars. Renting cars costs money. I am assuming there is no existing public transportation.

...and you don't lag behind at an after-Party at night.

I've raised this point with DNC and Host Committee. The bus system (esp with a 90 minute travel time) always breaks down because someone want to leave their hotel earlier or later, or wants to go back to the hotel sometime during the day.

We had a 30 minute bus ride into convention.

For the 2020 Texas delegation is staying in in Rosemont Illinois...80 miles away. That is a two hour bus ride each way. They should have held the convention in Houston

I am not planning on trying to be a delegate this cycle.

Amazing that such a critical State had such a bad location.

Another problem with Milwaukee is that large delegations have to be split up. No single hotel has enough rooms for CA for example.

the planning would have been better. With an average of two accidents per day on the I94 freeway coming from Illinois into Milwaukee (due to the Foxxconn fiasco) lets hope that the delegates don't end up spending hours in gridlock rather than completing their appointed duties. The freeway has been a nightmare since the construction began. Good luck to them. Milwaukee should have done a better job in assuring that enough rooms would be available.

27. Texas delegation stuck in hotels 80 miles from 2020 Democratic convention

From the Houston paper https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/politics/texas/article/Texas-delegation-stuck-in-hotels-80-miles-from-14373388.php

WASHINGTON — Not only did Texas get passed over for the Democratic National Convention, but the Texans heading to the convention as delegates next year will have a long haul from their hotels to the event in Milwaukee, where the Democratic presidential nominee will be named.

The Texas delegation will be stuck in a hotel in a Chicago suburb roughly 80 miles from the convention, the Texas Democratic Party confirmed today. The Chicago Sun Times first reported the hotel assignments, which the national Democratic party is unveiling at its summer meeting in San Francisco, which runs through the weekend.

The Texans are staying at the Loews Chicago O'Hare Hotel. They won’t be alone, as delegates from several states will be staying with them in Rosemont, a suburb near the O’Hare airport. They include: Alabama, American Samoa, California, Florida, Georgia, Guam, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Tennessee, Washington and Wyoming.
