Why not a debate solely devoted to gun control?

Seems to me this issue is just as pressing, if not more prevalent currently, than climate change - how about an entire debate devoted to what each candidate has done, and will do, to combat the mass-shooting epidemic in the Untied States?

primary today, I would vote for:

1. Sounds good but I want to see the candidates go after trump not argue with each other.

In the last debate they argued against each other and some even ended up bashing Obama.

Ridiculous.

trump should be the target.

I would not watch an hour or more of the candidates trying to out do or attack each other on guns and climate.

Better to have them one st a time state their ideas separately one after the other.

4. Climate change poses an existential threat, but even that doesn't call for a single-issue debate.

For starters, our candidates don't differ all that much on these issues. Secondly, a single-issue debate on 1 topic but not another would inevitably piss off a lot of people. Thirdly, I think ratings would suffer. While that may not seem like a really big deal, we want exposure for our candidates and causes, and we don't want a narrative that says "Dem debate proves to be snooze fest."

You touched on why single issue debates are a bad idea.

Gun control is an immensely important issue and yet somehow pales in comparison to human existence on the planet earth.

Step one is removing Trump. Because without that single step none of these issues will addressed. In fact, they'll undoubtedly become far worse.

16. Because gun control is not the most serious crisis facing humanity, climate change is.

Gun control can be done by someone with the swipe of a pen. That won't do squat against climate change. The Artic and the Amazon are on fire. Climate change will kill millions and we are running out of time to prevent it. Yes, it has happened before, but not on a planet with almost 8 billion people.

DNC won’t make gun control a high profile issue. Gun control supporters will already vote Dem and they don’t want to stir up the crazies and drive single issue gun lovers to the polls.
