You dont bodycheck effective progressive senators out.
It reminded me of Ed Case challenging our *beloved* Danny Akaka in 2006. Now our junior congressman, it took him all 14 years to be forgiven by Hawaiis Democrats.
Me anyway. Actually it still leaves a bad taste.
Come on Joe. I have faith in you. Hang in.

Agree. Markey is 73. Odds are, he'll be retiring before too much longer. Warren is doing well in the polls and might become the nominee, or could be tapped for VP or another administration appointment in 2020. So that's several ways a slot for Kennedy to run for Senate could open up soon without him primarying a progressive senator.

on edit: If it were the ghost of zell miller or someone like that challenging, I'd say dig your claws in that seat until the end of time if necessary

(560 posts)A counter-argument could be made that maybe a 38yo can hold his horses and wait until a seat opens up. Warren stands at least a plausible chance of having to step down within the next 16-18 months, and either she or Markey may decide to step aside within the next couple of cycles anyway.
Why primary someone who holds similar values and is doing a good job? Especially given the importance of seniority in the Senate.
