What Sort of SCOTUS Justice Would Your Preferred Candidate Nominate?

I'm thinking that Warren would choose someone that RGB would be proud to see on the Court. I can't see her choosing a left-leaning centrist like Garland, but rather someone who would be a counterweight to the currently very conservative bench.

In fact, Warren has joined Harris in contemplating the possibility of packing the courts with more liberals.

After Trump was elected, the GOP Senate also ended the filibuster on Supreme Court nominees, which led to the confirmation of two conservative justices - one of which should be Merrick Garland, of course.

But Warren is a fighter, if nothing else, and I'd expect her to aggressively try to align the courts with something that reflects the American people

If we flip the Senate next year, the first open Supreme Court seat needs to go to Merrick Garland.

People are focusing on the visuals and ignoring the substance.

Your profile indicates that you've been here for long enough... but you obviously don't remember the 2016 election (as it relates to Garland). We were actively trying to figure out how to keep the lame-duck republican Senate from confirming Garland after Clinton won and we took back the Senate.

I'm sure he's a fine jurist, but he's no replacement for Ginsburg or Breyer. He's the guy you pick to replace Thomas if you were worried about a republican majority blocking someone left of center.

We need to balance the deeply conservative bent of the current court.

Someone may mention Garland if asked the question, but that will just be to point out the partisan behavior of republican senators in the last few years. Clinton wouldn't have kept Garland and Obama would never have selected him if he wasn't looking to use him against Republicans.

In fact, Warren has joined Harris in contemplating the possibility of packing the courts with more liberals.

Our candidates need to cut that out. It may help with the base in getting the nomination, but it could cost the nominee the election.

I have no doubt she would be the most progressive President since FDR, and I'm confident she can pick her battles wisely.
