Campaign says Biden misspoke on Iraq War

Democratic White House hopeful Joe Biden's campaign said Monday that the former vice president misspoke when he said that he immediately opposed the Iraq War.

"Vice President Biden misspoke by saying that he declared his opposition to the war immediately," senior campaign adviser Antony Blinken told The Washington Post for a fact-checking piece on Biden's Iraq stance.

"He opposed the way we went to war and the way the war was being carried out. He has for many years called his vote a mistake and takes full responsibility for it."

I do NOT want to spend four or eight years with another president who has to be reinterpreted, constantly has a foot in their mouth, can't keep their story straight. I see Trump supporters bend in all kinds of different pretzel shapes to justify Trumps stupidity, and while Biden wouldn't be anywhere near the level Trump would, I just don't want to have to deal with it.

I myself was happy when there was buzz he might run before the primaries began. Then he began his campaign. He's leaps and bounds better than, Trump or any Republicans but enough of cleaning up missteps. We have candidates who don't have to walk back or apologize for confusion or anything they have said and done in their campaigns.

There is no Plan B in the centre-left/moderate lane, and enough Sanders supporters (NOT speaking of the DU ones) will never switch and vote for Warren in numbers large enough to make up the difference. Harris had a chance to perhaps make a play for the middle, but she instead went hard left (why, I do not know) and is now in a diminishing limbo of not being favoured by the left and has alienated the potential pulls from Biden's lanes with her ill-informed attacks on him.

The nomination is Biden's to lose as long as Bernie stays in. The only way I see Warren having a shot at it is IF Bernie dropped out and wholeheartedly endorsed Warren. That will not happen. Many of his supporters will not listen to him even if he did that. He is Biden's best asset for the nomination (along with the penumbra of the Obama years), which is why I find it so curious that many of his supporters just tear into Sanders non-stop. If Warren dropped out, there would still not be enough of her support who would slide over to Bernie for him to win either.

The only way I see Biden not winning the nomination who be a complete systemic collapse or some major health issue appearing out of nowhere. Both of those are extremely unlikely.

IF Bernie had truly cared about having a progressive POTUS, he should have never run this time and jumped on the Warren train from the start. I do not think him capable of such an act. He projects an aura of 'It is only ME who can save us'. That is not a message that the country needs right now. We already see the results of that type of behaviour as it is.

If Sanders doesn’t do well in Iowa I wonder how that changes his outlook on the race. An endorsement of Warren by him would go a long way, I think.

Guess you didn't notice this -

Sure, the reliability of any poll as a forecast must be heavily qualified, but if I had to choose between

A) A survey of 16,525 registered voters in 18 states that will hold early primaries and caucuses, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1.8 points.; and

B) an off the bat musing by would be DU seers

guess which one I would consider first.

CA, MA, VT, MN have been Dem since at least 92 with MA since 84 and MN since 72. CO, NV, have been Dem in the last 3 elections and are both Dem trifecta states right now. VA was Dem last 3 elections and we are on track for a trifecta there after elections in 19. NH last 3 elections. NC Dem gov, Dem LT gen, Dem Supreme court, more Dem votes for GA and Congress but gerrymandering screwed us.
