GOP pastes leprechaun hat on Beto O'Rourke DWI mug shot in St. Patrick's Day 'drink responsibly'

GOP pastes leprechaun hat on Beto O'Rourke DWI mug shot in St. Patrick's Day 'drink responsibly' message

In a St. Patrick's Day taunt, the Republican Party invoked the stereotype of drunken Irishmen on Sunday to remind voters about Beto O'Rourke's DWI arrest 20 years ago -- posting a photo of his mug shot with a green leprechaun hat superimposed.

"On this St. Paddy's Day, a special message from noted Irishman Robert Francis O'Rourke. Please drink responsibly," said the tweet from the official GOP account.

Within an hour, more than 8,000 comments had been posted on the tweet, the overwhelming majority of them chiding the party.

"As an Irishman this is deplorable. As an American it is unpatriotic. As a human it is racist," tweeted Matthew Dowd, the chief strategist for President George W. Bush's re-election campaign in 2004, and now an ABC News political analyst.

right before election 2000 and his fans couldn't care less. Neither did the US media trying to blame Gore for leaking it.

That's the way I remember it.

I'm also a amateur genealogist, and I think of the struggle my ancestors endured when coming to this country. And, to have it boiled down to a hurtful stereotype pisses me off greatly!

I hope that there are no Democrats that supports this nonsense, but I wouldn't be shocked if there are some that do since they view Beto's candidacy as an obstacle to their preferred candidate.

and discovered we're 54.6% British & Irish and 24.8% United Kingdom, Ireland French & German.

I have questions to ask her about this info.. but saw your percentage and thought I'd chime in.

As far as Beto.. repubs are stupid and their own worst enemies. Now they're insulting Irish..
