Kamala Harris heading straight to Texas county Republicans are worried about protecting in 2020

"Tarrant County Republicans already fear attention from White House hopefuls like Harris could fuel higher Democratic turnout in down-ballot races in 2020 in an area of the state that is rapidly changing demographically." https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/congress/article228125434.html

The California senator plans to meet with Tarrant County (Texas) Democrats at the Embassy Suites in Grapevine Friday evening for a community conversation, her campaign announced Tuesday.

Tarrant County, one of nation’s largest urban, conservative strongholds, has supported every GOP presidential nominee in recent history. But President Donald Trump only won 52 percent of the vote there in 2016, and Democrat Beto O’Rourke, who is now running for president, narrowly carried the county in the 2018 U.S. Senate election.

Tarrant County Republicans already fear attention from White House hopefuls like Harris could fuel higher Democratic turnout in down-ballot races in 2020 in an area of the state that is rapidly changing demographically.

Harris will then head to Houston Saturday for a rally at Texas Southern University, one of the nation’s largest historically black universities.

Good for Harris. The sooner TX truly becomes a purple state, the better for us all. LonePirate Mar 2019 #1

My timetable is sound. TX was +16R in 2012 but only +9R in 2016. 2020 will be even closer. LonePirate Mar 2019 #5

Once the Repubs lose TX, they are toast electorally. It is almost certainly a red leaning swing state in 2020; but come 2024 (or maybe even the 2022 mid-terms), look for some big changes in the state.

4. That timetable is not realistic

Beto made Texas artificially close and that is skewing the perspective.

The nation was 35% conservatives 26% liberals in the 2016 presidential election. Texas was 44% conservatives 20% liberals. That is reality of where the state stands, whether anyone accepts it or not. The subjective versions always assume too much change in too little time.

We need Texas Hispanics to become old enough to vote, actually register to vote, and then actually vote. That is the equivalent of a 3-team parlay.

I am guessing TX will be +5R at most in 2020, with +3R or +4R being possible. It will be a coin toss in 2024, maybe +1D or better.
