Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumWarren misquoted: Bloomberg hatchet job.
It's discouraging how DU'ers compete to put the the worst spin on statements by our candidates. I'm sure Biden supporters know how that feels.
Bloomberg libeled Elizabeth Warren in the piece titled "Warren Derides Biden as Running in 'Wrong Presidential Primary".
What Warren actually said was "If anyone wants to defend keeping those high profits for Insurance companies, and those high profits for Drug companies, and not making the top 1% pay a fair share in taxes, and not making corporations pay a fair share in taxes, then I think they are running in the wrong presidential primary".
It's a pretty unremarkable statement - all candidates tax plans will result in higher taxation of corporations and the top 1%, all candidates favor lower drug prices, and all the health plans put forward also introduce further restrictions on Insurance company premiums.
The 'Republican talking points' was a reference to doing nothing at all. "You know, Democrats are not going to win by repeating Republican talking points, and by dusting off the points of view of the giant Insurance companies, and giant Drug companies who don't want to see any change in the law that will bite into their profits."
The reference to Joe Biden, was about disputing her costings:-
The cost projections that we have on Medicare were authenticated by President Obamas head of Medicare. Our revenue projections were authenticated by President Obamas labor economist. And the employer contribution is already part of the Affordable Care Act that President Obama put into the Affordable Care Act. So if Joe Biden doesnt like that, Im just not sure where hes going."

(31,109 posts)prepare ourselves FOR UNCONDITIONAL and AGGRESSIVE support for WHOMEVER is the candidate.
I dont care who it is, I also am a bit worried that M4A which is the RIGHT THING TO DO may scare some middle of the road voters and we need them.
But besides that we better ALL get behind ONE candidate and soon. This is life and death.

(6,110 posts)The New York TimesSiena College poll released Friday showed Warren with 22 percent support from likely Democratic caucusgoers, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) with 19 percent, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) with 18 percent and Biden with 17 percent. All four fall close to the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4.7 percentage points.

(9,336 posts)Biden's criticism of Warren's plan was in part based on the authentications mentioned by Warren. Implying that Biden must agree with her plan because members of the Obama administration had checked out her numbers, or else he doesn't know where he is going, is quite a bit of a stretch, to say the least.
On edit: note that Biden is critical of Warren's plan, and Warren is critical of Biden personally.

(5,801 posts)Yesterday on MSNBC Steve Kornacki came on, substituting for Brian Williams, and in his show opening rundown of topics to be covered he said something like "...and coming up, the hefty price tag on Elizabeth Warren's health plan". I didn't stick around but chances are this was a misdirection emphasizing the cost but not the benefits, or the overall lower cost and savings.
That's how MSNBC, let alone other corporate media outlets, will attempt to poison the minds of the average "Murican against her.

The senator professor fit healthcare into her core message on corruption and the money power.
...Let us get the requisite hunk of cynical reality out of the way right here at the top. Absent the kind of national landslide that killed off the Whigs and Federalists, or a sudden discovery within the Republicans of a vestigial collective conscience, no Democrat's healthcare plan will get through to the president's desk out of a Senate led by Mitch McConnell. Therefore, any debate on the topic within the Democratic primary process is largely aspirational. (After all, only Joe Biden has publicly endorsed the actual existence of that mythical beast: The Republican Who Can Be Reasoned With.)
Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's good to aspire to things. It's good to throw the cap over the wall. It also helps if your plan is as carefully constructed and precisely reasoned as the one Senator Professor Warren put out there on Friday, the one that so thoroughly answers the question, "How're you gonna pay for it?" that people should be embarrassed to ask it again. Dave Dayen at The American Prospect has as good a summary of the 9,300 pages as you can find. (Dayen shrewdly points out that single-payer plans are generally held to a ludicrously high standard by politicians and pundits.) And he makes one magnificent catch: the Warren plan re-institutes a systemic risk fee that was eliminated in the negotiations over the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill at the request of...wait for it...Scott Brown. SPW has a plan. She also has a memory.
There are three elements of the new plan worth studying right off the top. First of all, it is designed as a mechanism for universal coverage. Long ago, in 2003, I was riding around Iowa with Howard Dean when he still was the only person running for presidentGeorge W. Bush hadn't yet announced for re-electionand he emphasized that the primary goal of any overhaul of the healthcare system should be universal coverage and not necessarily cost controls. Warren's plan does that. Second, it is perfectly consonant with the anti-corruption, anti-monopoly power theme of her entire campaign. The plan aims to bring antitrust enforcement to the healthcare sector.
And third, it factors into its calculations a cut in the defense budget, which used to be a big deal for Democrats, but which hasn't been a top-line item in presidential campaigns for a while. And, again, this is premised on the same principles on which is premised her campaignthat the money power has paralyzed self-government to the point at which it is not capable of doing much of anything, a situation with which the money power is more than content. Defense-industry corporations are just as avaricious and just as blind to the public interest as corporations generally are, if not more so. If it does nothing else, the new plan integrates healthcare into a general criticism of economic inequality and disadvantage. It connects healthcare to dozens of other economic "kitchen-table" issues that have arisen since the nation's wealth began its headlong flight upwards in the 1980s.

(68,565 posts)the true cost and having spent the morining trying to keep my sis in law from being kicked out of her nursing home/rehab facility becaus medicare doesn't pay for more than 60 days or some such thing...she broke her leg in four places after a fall in the house. I can't care for her at home. She was already in bad shape and it was increasingly difficult. She is three times the size of me and can't get up or down or walk...we are attempting to get her on medicaid...it is a very difficult task. I am not feeling kindly towards Medicare at the moment. And even if we get her on Medicaid, she still will have reduced physical therapy...at 67 years old, she could spend the rest of her life in this facility. There are enough holes in Medicare to drive a truck through. And what people don't get is that wraps don't cover anything that medicare doesn't cover and are expensive too. Not looking forward to being on this plan at 65 much less anytime sooner.

I HATE when every word Biden has said I the last 30 years has to be parsed and dissected to every possible negative conclusion. Its been happening to the front runner since before he entered.
So now Warren is a front runner and every word she says is being dissected.
Politics is dirty business. The part Dems hate and of which Repukes excel.
