https://news.yahoo.com/nancy-pelosi-worried-2020-candidates-100000963.htmlSpeaker Nancy Pelosi is issuing a pointed message to Democrats running for president in 2020: Those liberal ideas that fire up the partys base are a big loser when it comes to beating President Donald Trump.
Proposals pushed by Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders like Medicare for All and a wealth tax play well in liberal enclaves like her own district in San Francisco but wont sell in the Midwestern states that sent Trump to the White House in 2016, she said.
What works in San Francisco does not necessarily work in Michigan, Pelosi said at a roundtable of Bloomberg News reporters and editors on Friday. What works in Michigan works in San Francisco talking about workers rights and sharing prosperity.
Remember November, she said. You must win the Electoral College.

(15,643 posts)antiquated. What didn't work to real effect in 2016 most likely won't work to the degree we might think it will in 2020 either. At least, that's my view. Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result from what we've experienced generally over the past 40+ years and in 2016 ... ?
BUT let me edit to add here ... I havent totally ruled Biden out as my primary choice (though I do prefer a more aggressively progressive approach/agenda) and will do everything I can to ensure hes elected should he be our nominee.

(2,657 posts)The best chance we have of beating Trump is with someone closer to the center who can pull votes from the left, right, and middle...someone like...Joe Biden.

(5,007 posts)we can just hang on until 2024. The one good thing is that Bernie will be way too old and I will not have to listen to his cheerleaders ever again. Too bad the country would be in shambles after 8 years of Trump. But hey at least we pushed for MFA and free college for all. No it is all or nothing. We cant allow people to choose to keep their private insurance. It is all or nothing. Because of course those issues are more important that actually beating that orange troll. 🙄

(714 posts)Democratic leadership, please stay out of this. You're making things much worse. You're only creating anger and resentment. Let the people decide this. After the nominee is chosen, then you can give your full support.

(53,776 posts)the House in 2018 and on the impeachment issue. Perhaps we should listen.
Free college and $30,000,000,000 MFA with an alleged 200k job loses (as repugs will spin it) is not going to defeat trump.

(47,476 posts)Most voters are moderate. Yes, even Republicans and independents. The left tiling, by all the leading candidates is scary. This country has never undergone a revolution and never will, the "activists" notwithstanding. Thus, I can see many, on election day, choosing the "devil that they know."
Nancy proved correct when she pushed the 2018 elections to be on health care and not on impeachment. Let's not prove her correct with disaster results.

(714 posts)it would be more constructive for the Party leadership to stay neutral. When they put their thumbs on the scale, so to speak, it only has the effect of creating resentment among the supporters of the other candidates. And, just like it did in 2016, it could suppress voter turnout. Its already influencing my donations. Ive started limiting my financial support to the Warren campaign and not the Democratic Party in general.

(714 posts)Why take actions to discourage them? The party leadership needs to understand this; instead of exacerbating the problem by picking their own favorite. They need to be equally supportive of all the candidates in the Primaries. Once the nominee has been selected, they can go hog-wild in their support but, not until then!
