The Democratic National Committee quickly caught the attempt on Friday by Steyers deputy S.C. state director Dwane Sims to export Harris data, which contained thousands of volunteer contacts collected over the course of the campaign in this critical early-voting primary state.
The party sent a cease-and-desist letter and has since received certification from Sims that he destroyed the stolen data, S.C. Democratic Party chairman Trav Robertson told The Post and Courier. The Steyer campaign said it does not have possession of the data.
Sims was placed on administrative leave over the weekend while the Steyer campaign conducts an internal investigation, Steyer campaign spokesman Alberto Lammers said.
Sims also is permanently banned from the voter file and all Democratic Party systems, Democratic National Committee spokeswoman Xochitl Hinojosa said.

(10,500 posts)And Steyer is handling it much better so far.
Ironically, that was the moment when the nonsense about the DNC trying to help Hillary win first began to take off. Their restrictions on Sanders, until he took the necessary steps to ensure that her data was not still possessed by him, led him to claim that there was some type of conspiracy.
Could you imagine if the roles had been reversed? If an HRC staffer had breached the firewall and downloaded Bernie's data? People would have openly called her a corrupt and terrible human being. In other words, they would have gone full Tulsi Gabbard on her.
Hillary, to her credit, was so fair with Bernie. She immediately accepted his guarantees that it was not deliberate on his part, and he knew nothing about his staffer's actions. O'Malley was so shocked by her graciousness at the debate that he couldn't quite process it, and delivered his pre-written line about "bickering." That pretty much finished him off.

(11,495 posts)and Steyer should be questioned about what, if anything, he knew about it before it happened.
This is just completely uncalled for, and if Steyer knew, he should drop out now. I wonder if like when Bernie's guy did this, people will start getting calls and emails from the Steyer campaign?

(42,439 posts)A billionaire white man has a staffer who steals data from the only WOC running and..meh?
The staffer needs to be charged and Steyer has lots of 'splaining to do. He also needs to offer an apology to Harris.
I'm reading on Twitter that Harris supporters suddenly are getting emails from Steyer's campaign. But, yes, let's believe that the data was destroyed.
