IBD/TIPP just released a national poll showing Biden beating Trump by 10% , Warren beating Trump by 8% , Bernie beating Trump by 7% ……...Ditto for Fox News , WaPo/ ABC News ……...NYT/Siena appears to be an obvious outlier ……. Siena claims only 44% of voters favor Trump's impeachment and removal ….Fox News has it at 49% …...Post/ ABC 49% ... NBC/WSJ 49% Gallup 52% ….Another outlier - favoring Trump ……….Matthew Dowd needs to calm down and look at all the data ….Trump is in deep trouble ………..

if we listen to people like this. It has never been about the 36% that make up his base, the deplorables. It’s about the other 10 or 12 percent that resulted in him winning the electoral college. Granted, the deplorables are hopeless and a waste of time. But we ignore the economy at our peril. Not to mention we won’t win by calling out deplorables and what they stand for alone. There are too many voters for whom kitchen table issues matter immensely.

This meme is growing weary.

By this, I don't believe we should spent a lot of money to try to get their vote. But we must address the underlying cause for their unhappiness, else we turn this into a political game of US v Them and nobody wins.

As many have said, Trump is not the cause of the problem, but rather a symptom. Many of his supporters (and I agree some are just lost or won't ever be reached -the racist and outright haters - but maybe their children can be). One does not fight hate with hate and a lot of Trump voters have been left behind and forgotten. Their anger stems from not being heard and their problems not addressed. These are the ones that the Dems should NEVER give up on. Else, what do we as Democrats stand for?

usurping their place in society.

They feel left behind and forgotten because they think that people of color are taking something away from them that their whiteness has always entitled them to. And they're terrified that, when the demographics shift, they will be treated as badly as we have been treated.

Recognizing that isn't hate.

We have tried everything to appeal to them and bring them along. I'm sick of it and done with it and them. If they haven't figured out by now that they're wrong, I'm all for leaving them behind.

black and brown people even have a place in society. They also hate that LGBT people have rights....they also aren't too sure about the other religious people who are of a different brand than they are.

They believe that if those they see as "other" have any rights whatsoever, it somehow takes something away from them.

I know this because I grew up among them. My brothers are them. My in-laws are them.

They delight in using their religious beliefs as a bludgeon and an excuse to behave in ways that their own supposed beliefs tell them is wrong.

They love Trump because he hates and has given them explicit permission to drop the polite pretense, the mask of civility and be who they really are.

I won't forget who they are when the time comes that they want to put those masks back in place.

I said in my post are probably a lost cause - the racist or just plain haters. Hard to remedy hate, but every once in a while even these people find enlightenment - there are stories are former Klan members who reject their past and make amends. Rare, but there is hope for everyone.

The group I was speaking of is the ones hurt by the economy - when jobs are lost due to policies often passed by Democrats. The ones who watched their towns go from prosperity to desolation. Those who can't even get clean drinking water in the 21st century in the one of the richest nations on earth. These are the ones I think the Dems cannot forget or ignore.

.@ZerlinaMaxwell says it’s a “false premise” that Democrats have to woo Trump voters, because there was a big drop-off in black voters between 2012 and 2016.

“The question is not: Do I want to vote for Trump or this Democrat? The question is: Is do I want to vote or stay home?”

Let's focus on mobilizing the reliable democratic base and turn out the vote.
