Biden picks up endorsement of a 9th black member of Congress

https://www.politico.com/news/2019/11/07/joe-biden-marc-veasey-endorsement-067079

Rep. Marc Veasey of Texas endorsed Joe Biden for president on Thursday, giving the former vice president his ninth endorsement from a black member of Congress.

Veasey, who represents a majority-minority district that includes parts of Dallas and Fort Worth, said his constituents overwhelmingly support Biden.

“They want more of a kind of meat-and-potatoes type candidate, someone who can beat [President Donald] Trump,” Veasey told POLITICO in a phone interview. “That’s really their No. 1 concern: Their No. 1 concern is that Trump can no longer be president after the November 2020 election, and they think that Biden is the best candidate.”

The Biden campaign later forwarded a statement from Veasey expanding on that message.

“At a time when Washington is ripping our nation apart, we need a good man and steady hand to not only defeat Donald Trump, but to stitch us back together and stand up for working families nationwide,” Veasey said in the statement. “That’s why I’m supporting Joe Biden for President.”

-snip-

Harris still has the endorsement of one more CBC member than Biden has, but unless she starts doing much better in the polls, I'd be surprised if she continues to lead Biden much longer in CBC endorsements.

Booker has 2 CBC endorsements, Castro has 1, and Warren has 1 as of yesterday when Ayanna Pressley endorsed her.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Joe is going to win the primary on the shoulders of African Americans and Latinos. It's those same voting blocks, with an increase of white males, that will crush Trump. Fact. Biden will win Florida and I'll go to bed early. Joe is our GE gem.

It's not too soon. I was very reassured to have Joe in the race from the beginning, but I find I've actually become more so every week as this has progressed. Time's mostly run out for the survivors among the other fine possibilities who deserved to rise but haven't. IA's only 88 days away now.

Our party has been very fortunate to have among our choices a distinguished statesman who's very widely liked and trusted, has consistently shown strong electabilty, has the experience we need in a president, shares our liberal progressive ideals, and is committed to protecting our democracy. That many in the AA, Hispanic and other minority communities are gathering in support of him matters enormously and is one of the things that're going very right for our party of diversity. And unity.

Just imagine if Joe hadn't run and at this point none among several top rankers had managed to hold a lead for more than a couple weeks in a row?

So Joe's always been a favorite for many reasons; and amid disappointments from others I admire, I've always been glad and reassured that he's remained the leader. It's not too much to say having him in the race has helped me sleep better.

(Warren, whom I've long admired and wanted as Hillary's VP, has sadly removed herself from consideration with a healthcare proposition that's widely rejected by the people when polled, an approach I just don't understand. I'd love to see her talents put to work on important projects in the Biden administration.)

This is from an e-mail that I received from Marc

I’m proud to announce my support for Joe Biden. There is no greater threat to our democracy than Donald Trump -- but I’m certain that Joe is the one who can beat Trump and get our country back on track as President of the United States.
Joe is the leader we need. He’s never backed down from a challenge and he has a plan for rebuilding the middle class and unifying this country -- not dividing it.
That’s why I’m reaching out to you personally. It’s going to take all of us stepping up to elect Joe and restore dignified leadership in the White House. ....
Americans know Joe Biden. They know he will fight for everyday working Americans, fight for protecting and expanding the Affordable Care Act, fight to strengthen our public schools, and continue to fight the climate crisis.
With your support, we can restore this vision in America, and restore the soul of this nation.
Can you join me in supporting Joe Biden ......? Together, we can send Joe back to the White House:

Thank you,
Congressman Marc Veasey

wonderful expression to capture what we need as a nation and exactly what I believe Biden can do
because, so far, he is the candidate with the most support from voters who represent America’s racial and ethnic diversity. The importance of that is not a matter of electability only.

It is a matter of healing, re-setting the tone at the top, striving for greater fairness and inclusivity on many fronts.

If Biden wins, I believe he will honor and work hard for the communities that will have made it possible.

Keep on keeping on, Joe!
America and the world need you.
