The Nation (anti-Biden magazine) promoted debunked claim that Russia didn't hack the DNC

Here is the article written by Seth Rich conspiracy theorist Patrick Lawrence for the pro-Sanders magazine The Nation titled "A New Report Raises Big Questions About Last Year's DNC Hack".

Here is New York magazine in a piece titled
The Nation Article About the DNC Hack Is Too Incoherent to Even Debunk

http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2017/08/the-nation-article-about-the-dnc-hack-is-incoherent.html
Here is The Washington Post article entitled The Nation is reviewing a story casting doubt on Russian hack of DNC

Here is the New Yorker's Raffi Khatchadourian on The Nation's piece:

And of course Robert Mueller debunked this as well.

They didn't normally do endorsements, but they chose to endorse Obama over Hillary Clinton, while admitting they had no real basis to do so on policy. Of course, they'd been running the Cockburn (Hillary hater) column for years, but I just felt that was part of their give and take.

I waited for the letter I was supposedly going to get for dropping my subscription so I could let them know, but I guess they must have stopped doing it by then.

and I cancelled after 3 months. It was the most relentless, negative, hateful attacks on the Democratic party and on normal American thinking. It was absolutely insane. Constant, constant attacks on every Democratic candidate and politician. No attacks on Republicans ever.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I spend a lot of time at the Hill, where they have a fake progressive who constantly attacks Democrats and is constantly pushing the Trump agenda.

There are a lot of entrenched forces in our society that attack liberalism and attack liberal candidates. Many of them pretend to be progressive.

Katrina van den Heuvel, though no longer the editor of the Nation ( she stepped down in June 2019), is still the "editorial director," publisher, and part-owner of that magazine. More importantly, she was definitely the editor in 2017, when the article in question was published. I don't know much about full career and political history of her husband, Stephen Cohen, but I do know that he's a now-retired professor of Russian studies who has been in recent years a bizarre defendant of Putin - defending Putin's invasion of Crimea, and more.

My bet is that van den Heuvel and Cohen had something to do with the content of that article.

Katrina and her husband Steven Cohen are hugh Russia lovers.
He has been called, ' Putin’s American Apologist’

Here is an article from the Chronicle of Higher Education
https://www.chronicle.com/article/Is-This-Professor-Putin-s/241777

But these days, Cohen is better known for his views on a different Russian leader. In his columns and media appearances in recent years, he has become perhaps the most prominent defender of Vladimir Putin. "Putin is not a thug," he declared on CNN. "He’s not a neo-Soviet imperialist who’s trying to recreate the Soviet Union. He’s not even anti-American." The defense extends to the U.S. president, who has had some nice things to say about Putin. "The number-one threat to the United States today," Cohen told Fox News, is the continuing investigation of Trump’s ties to Russia: "There is no evidence there was any wrongdoing."

Part of it might be because of their seeming hatred for Sec Clinton and Clintonism. Marcy Wheeler gets into frequent twitter skirmishes with their reporter who has primarily covered the tRump-Russia beat because of his skepticism about the story (and many things about the Mueller investigation).

Their Russia coverage has more in common with Greenwald and Taibbi than anything else. On the other hand, they also have great columnists like Joan Walsh and they publish lots of important stories that merit wider attention.
