Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBernie hired a Jill Stein voter as national press secretary for his 2020 campaign.
https://heavy.com/news/2019/03/briahna-joy-gray-bernie-sanders-press-secretary/Ugh. I know, I know, "expanding the party" "independent voters" blah blah. Here's the problem with that. Bernie is probably not going to be the nominee. This isn't a knock, it's just reality. He's one of the leading contenders, but it's a crowded field, so the odds of any individual candidate are well below 50%, whether it's Bernie or Harris or Warren or Biden or Beto or whoever.
In the end we're going to have one nominee, and the most important thing is for that nominee to defeat Trump. The nominee is not going to be the first choice for most Democrats. Which means the very last thing we need is for any of the main contenders to run a campaign that bashes the other contenders so much that supporters conclude that it's not even worth voting for the D in the general election.
We all remember that in 2016, there were Bernie Sanders delegates to the convention actually booing Democratic speaker after Democratic speaker. And not just a few. Which means that, of all the contenders, Bernie should be extra-aware of the problem of whipping supporters into irrational and destructive anger at other candidates.
And yet, in 2020, Bernie's campaign co-chair is a Jill Stein voter, and now his press secretary is a Jill Stein voter. WTF?
And what if Bernie does win the nomination? Yeah, I'll vote for him against Trump, obviously. But how does this help him lock down, say, Harris supporters, or Biden supporters in the general? How does he convince the party to unify behind him, when he has populated his top campaign positions with people that refused to unify behind the nominee in 2016?

(17,600 posts)I never thought Hillary could win ... that being more about the voters and the unfair smears over 30 years, than about her.
If it weren't for GOP, russian, AND Stein ratf*ckery ... Clinton would have proved me wrong. (I did vote for her in the GE and by that time thought she would eke it out. Sigh.)
I appreciate many of Bernie's policy positions but I feel his approach is actually very unhelpful. I am not sure if it is deliberately unhelpful, or just cluelessly unhelpful.

He never visited the mosques in Vermont -- there are two mosques in Burlington. However, right after Christchurch, he went to several to generate photo ops.
There are a dozen examples of this -- DUers will help you with the dramatic campaigning of Senator Sanders.

The "progressives" in the House are much more compassionate and smarter..
Progressives Support Shoring Up ACA Before Tackling Medicare For All
snip//
Im happy to support any provision that strengthens the ACA and plug some of the gaps that were seeing, particularly as its under assault by the president, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) told HuffPost on Wednesday. I think its part of a longer-term vision, at least for me, towards guaranteeing ― truly guaranteeing ― health care for all Americans.
Ocasio-Cortez said she understood prioritizing fixes to the Affordable Care Act. Because we have a Republican Senate, a Republican president, and so the things that we have the ability to pass right now are pretty narrow, she said, though she added she wanted hearings on Medicare for All and didnt think single-payer solutions had been given enough attention from the Democratic caucus yet.
